I read reviews that said "Good but you still have to sweep/vacuum." That was very confusing to me (does it work or not?) so allow me to clarify:
I have 3 young kids and I run Deebot (R2Dbot) after lunch and after dinner. I stack and move all the dinner chairs because under the table is the worst. My table has 6 legs. When I come back downstairs after it runs completely (and usually finds home by itself) I will notice maybe 3 things/areas that it missed. I don't worry about them. I just run it again after dinner and it will grab what it left behind before, but misses a cheerio here or popcorn there.
I used to sweep 2x a day and vacuum at least every other day. Now I sweep 1x/wk (hard to reach corners and playdoh/salad/wet shredded wheat that Deebot can't pick up) and vacuum maybe 1x a month. I absolutely love having some help around here and find it so easy to keep the floors clean. It goes easily from the rug, carpet, tile, and hardwood. It pushes large things aside and can manoover out of tricky situations most of the time. It's not great on mats so I just pick them up before starting it (I would anyway when sweeping). It does my entire main floor without much issue (Kitchen, dining, living, laundry room, bathroom, playroom, and entry way). It has to be rescued about every other day because it ate a huge rubber band, got stuck on rug, or couldn't get out from under a chair. Because I run it so often and the kids enjoy pushing the start button, it hasn't bothered me.
Bonus: This thing is fun. Did you know that it has a remote that let's you drive it like a remote control car? My older kids love that. My 2 year old finally has a best friend. He follows deebot around and laughs at him when he runs into a wall. The thing has paid for itself in babysitting alone. I also love that I can use it to motivate the kids: "Oh no! Let's pick up these toys before Deebot eats them!" #winning
We bought iRobot Roomba two years ago. It is quite useful but inconvient for cleaning a two stories house. We have to take the machine upstairs and downstairs to clean the whole home. Since it is expensive to buy another irobot so wechoose ECOVACS Deebot as an alternative. Comparing to iRobot, this one is smaller and much lighter. The outer covering quality is not as good as iRobot but the performance is good. Overall it is a very good product for the price.
I've been using this device for about a week.
The first impression is very good: it does not bump as a psycho here or there, it has a logic in it and it _does_ collect dust/trash/pollen.
Okay, Q&A:
** Does it do its direct job, i.e. does it clean carpet/floor?
Yes, it does. I empty its box every day, what makes me think it works.
What I like is that it has very fine filters that catch tiny particles, and - believe it or not - my kid's allergy has been reduced a lot!
** Is it noisy?
No, actually, it's not. I can talk normally, but would not like it working while sleeping or reading.
** How long the battery lasts?
About 1.5-2 hours. After that this buddy goes to the charger.
** And does it find it?
Yes, normally does.
** Why just 4 stars?
Because it is stupid enough and sometimes may stuck in a chair: aaaargh, 4 obstacles, enemy within, panic mode, shut down. No, seriously, developers have to do something with this use case.
** Does it clean well? Can you set up cleaning time?
Well, I did not test it by dropping stuff around. But traces tell me it works pretty good + I don't see any debris around which is good. I set it to 4 pm, so it works just before I return home.
** Does it support smart house apps?
Yes, it can be manage online via smartphone.
** Is it hard to use?
I'll be honest: I haven't read the manual. It's so easy to run, so I read only 'quick start' manual, 1 page brochure.
** Is it hard to clean?
It takes about 2 minutes to clean up the tank, filters and the brush. The special tool is included.
** Would you buy it again?
Hard question. It's definitely worth the money. I like the effect of it. But probably I would put a bit (100-200) more if I had a choice, but market offers really smart devices for about 1000. Ultimately - yes. I would buy it again.
I will update this review if a firmware update makes it smarter or if I completely get disappointed with it
Absolutely love this thing. I have it set to run at 1:30am while the family sleeps and boy does thing (I named mine Suckatron), do its job! I got this on sale for $199 on here, but I don’t see the need for Alexa connectivity. The app does just fine. These people crying about it, seriously, it’s stupid.
I’ve had it for about two weeks now and it’s finally not filling up as much on the overnight cleaning, which makes me happy. It blows my mind the amount of hair and dirt this thing picks up. We have two dogs and a cat, along with a 2 month old and a 2 year old. I just have to pick up any loose items and wires in the living room, dining room, and kitchen and block the bottom of the fridge (it tends to get jammed under the door and gets stuck), and this little wonder cleans up like a champ
This guy is mighty and worth every penny. If I manage to keep this for over a year, which I’m sure I will, this thing will have cost me less than a $1/day and I can’t put a value on my or my wife’s time that we save with cleaning. I could go on and on, but I won’t. It awesome. You’re silly if you don’t buy this guy. The N79 version probably does just fine, I just happened to catch this one for practically the same price, so that’s why I went for it.
UPDATE: The main brush on our vac went out a few weeks back and the ECOVACS support team has been fantastic and simple to deal with. I sent it back last Friday and the new one arrives just 3 business days later. Amazing customer service. Just hope that this one lasts a lot longer.
Our "Beeboot" as my wife has renamed it is awesome!! Way exceeded our expectations. I did a lot of research and compared pros and cons with various brands and models and this was truly the best(especially for the price)! It has WiFi for app control, it connects with Alexa, and comes with a remote. My wife vacuumed with our Dyson before hand to tidy up a bit and not overwhelm Beeboot. We still had to empty out his dust bin twice that first time. Keep in mind we have 4 German shepherds and a cat. So now we run Beeboot nightly to clean and he does his own thing while we watch tv. My shepherds just lay around until Beeboot comes around and know enough to move when he comes their way. My cat just hides until Beeboot is done.

Description
This is absolutely the best thing I’ve EVER purchased. My husband was annoyed at first claiming it was frivolous and unnecessary...but after we followed it around for an hour the first day, we can’t believe we ever lived without it. We have it set to run at 7am after we leave for work... we empty it when we get home and have perfect carpet lines in our area rug and clean corners, but have it set to run again at 7 pm after dinner. My dog doesn’t care about it, it’s relatively quiet, and it just plain WORKS. I love that it’s connected to Alexa, so if I’m home and feel like it needs to run again, I can say, “Alexa, have Rosie start cleaning” and off she goes. If you’re on the fence about this, just buy it. You won’t regret it. My only regret is that I didn’t pull the trigger and order sooner. I just can’t believe how much better I feel about life when my corners aren’t dusty and I have vacuum lines. It’s really the perfect invention.
I received my vacuum and is has been wonderful. I had some trouble linking it with wifi but when I put my phone in airplane mode it seemed to set up easier. If you have set up issues follow the steps on the website. Our first cleaning went great, this little robot really cleaned up. I read many reviews before making a purchase and I have to say that they were all true. My dog, who never let me vacuum, ignores it and he would bark his head off with the push vacuum. The sound is not bad. It moves from wood floors through thresholds and over area rugs with ease. just make sure wires are off the ground as it will get tangled up. I love that I can follow up with a quick dust mopping and my house stays clean! Alexa starts, stops and will have Deebot charge with a simple command. I only wish I could rename it for Alexa in the Alexa app. Update: the deebot will not operate over dark/black rugs.My sons room has a patterned rug and the Deebot will not go over the black sections.Update: There is a fix on the vacumm website to tape white paper over the sensors. This does work to keep the cleaner from stopping on dark carpets. But it also ontinues to run when you pick it up and it went over my Patio foor jam down on my patio and heading for a swim in my pool. So besure to take the tape off if you are not monitoring it. 😉
I don't review products nearly as often as I should, but great products make me so happy, I just feel compelled to write a short review.
First, I had an issue with the initial setup, and I think its just because I turned the unit on before I configured the wireless, so I called the customer support line and got someone within 90 seconds, wow. The woman was incredibly helpful, stepped me through the set up and away it went. I expressed some concerns about the unit getting lost and inquired about getting a second charger, in case. She said, no problem, we'll send you another.
Second; operation. Amazing. I sit around watching this thing go and I am amazed at how the algorithm navigates around chair legs and very tight spaces. I have two long-haired cats and with them, its impossible to keep the floors clean. It jumps up from bare floor to carpet and carpet onto rugs effortlessly. The App for the phone is just perfect, you can operate from work, which is what I do. Go off to work, set it in motion, despite a large first floor footprint, it finds itself back to the charger just about every time. About an hour or two before I head home from work, I schedule it to start again, or manually start it remotely and come home to a clean house. WOW. Battery life is more that enough to clean a 1500 square foot surface in one charge, about two hours
Third; quality. It does a surprisingly good job at cleaning. It picks up small dirt, hairs, everything. Does edges well and even cleans the chair feet better than expected. I have also very clean carpets and runs. The quality of the device is quite good, its not rugged by any means, but I don't see any vulnerabilities making it prone to breakage. It hops up on my medium pile carpet and even hops up on rugs that are on the carpet
Four; maintenance, well, I've only had it a couple of days, but the receptacle gets full easily. The filters are easy to clean, the roller brush is a little hard to clean, but I see four screws and I suspect I can just take the roller brush out and clean it more effectively that way. The entire receptacle, brushes and filters can easily be removed and washed.
Lastly; downsides. There are few. The unit will get caught up in wires, so need to clear them. Also, I have a sliding glass door with a ridge, be sure to close those doors, it will get hung up. It will also get hung up on raised vents. I would like to see in a future firmware an alert for the receptacle being full, this is something it needs, an alert to tell you it needs to be emptied. Also, would be nice to get an alert if the unit get stuck on something, otherwise, it will try for a while and put itself on standby and there is no way to tell its not just back into its station, like an alert or text on your phone.
The DEEBOT vacuum cleaner is very easy to setup since I just looked at the quick start with very simple steps and put it on work right away! For a big room, it will take some time to clean every inch since it could choose to clean some area several time until finding every corner area. A good part is that when it was working, I didn’t see dust in the air, which helped maintain air quality. It is smart as well since it could find the charging station by itself without any hint, which is great! The cleaning path is crazy, but with enough time and a reasonably sized cleaning area, it does a surprisingly good job, particularly on tiles. I haven’t tried Alexa compatibility yet, but so far it works for us. So happy I decided to buy it. This is my first vacuum robot and I like it a lot!
20180406 Initial review.
Hi, this is my initial review so please take that into consideration. After a few months I'll return and update as necessary.
I've only owned this unit for a short while, but initial testing looks quite promising. Here are some quick findings:
1) This unit is definitely quieter than some Roomba counterparts (specifically the 770 and 790 which I already own).
2) After a five minute run there was already a lot of stuff pulled into its bin. We were actually kind of stunned, but then not really.
3) The Wi-Fi and Alexa connectivity, though unnecessary, are definitely convenient features to have. When activating the Alexa skill, wait at least 15 minutes AFTER registering your account and device with ECOVACS. Otherwise, you'll undoubtedly run into the invalid username or password error I (and others) ran into those first few moments.
4) While there is no handle to lift the unit, the unit is remarkably and notably light (compared to a Roomba).
More stuff:
Months ago we adopted a blind corgi puppy. I was reluctant for two reasons: bling and not exactly hypoallergenic (as you can get for a dog, anyway).
Fast forward 6 months and while this puppy is no longer blind, he sheds a lot more than we imagined! We vacuum weekly with a Dyson Ball. We were thinking that the Dyson was picking up everything and that weekly jobs were enough. NOPE! We ran the Deebot after having just vacuumed with the Ball and it to pick up much at all. WRONG!
Attached are two pictures. One of the bin with some stuff in it. That stuff is what it picked up in less than 5 minutes of operating the unit. The second picture is what a bin full of crap looks like after a full cycle of operation on the main floor.
The timing of this purchase couldn't have been better, too. Our Roomba 790 which was a warranty replacement for a 770 has now finally died. The cost of a new Roomba could easily pay for another two of these Deebots. We'll definitely be watching Ecovacs closely.
