UPDATE (4 months of regular use): The color retention isn’t mentioned in the description but now that I’ve had an opportunity to test them for a few months of 2x per week washing, I have some good news. The purple washcloths are now more of a lavender (more like the color in the ad) and are just as soft and well-composed as when I bought them. The only strings I’ve seen are from me ripping the tags off with my hands - I don’t have time for scissors. 🙃 I also don’t wash as directed, I wash on high with warm water and have not been nice to them at all. Thank you, Amazon!
ORIGINAL REVIEW (Nov. 2017):
Thanks to targeted ads (I can’t believe I’m saying that) I found AmazonBasics wash cloths.
<<<I will not buy any other from here on out!!!>>>
Do you like wasting money? Do you enjoy finding out you have spent $50 on 24 “luxury” towels only to find they don’t absorb anything, are poorly sewn, and like to rip/fall apart in the WASH when they’re not even being used? Yeah, me either. That has been my experience with two other companies, and given the reprehensible customer service experience I was ready to cut my losses and go to Walmart for junky, pilly rags that last a month at best. It appeared my efforts to eradicate wasteful paper towel spending had been thwarted. Then, my unnecessarily frugal (cheap) heart was spared! Now I only have to spend $50 a year as opposed to $60 per month just to clean up after my 5 little slobs.
I have to be objective though, so here are the pros and cons, as well as a comparison on product description advertising versus REALITY.
Amazon’s Description
* LINTING: Medium
* DURABILITY: Medium
* ABSORBANCY (Amazon misspelled it): Medium
* SOFTNESS: Medium
My Experience
* LINTING: Low
* DURABILITY: High
* ABSORBENCY: Medium
* SOFTNESS: Medium/High
PROS
* Whites hold up in bleach on hot in washer. (Disclaimer: they explicitly state NOT to bleach, not sure why.)
* Only had to wash whites one time and lavender two times to get rid of initial linting.
* Used daily for following:
- Floor mopping.
- Dishes, pots and pans.
- General baby and pet messes.
- Hand towels for “nice” bathrooms.
- Baby teethers and wiping up after meals. (Put a few ice cubes in damp washcloths and secure with hair tie - another money saver!)
- Face towels after washing.
- Makeup remover.
- Water absorber under orchid pots.
* Soft enough to use for face/body.
* Just the right thickness so as to be able to lay over the sink and reuse. Other washcloths I’ve had were so thick you had to wash immediately after use or they would develop a musty stench.
* End seams are done extremely well. Even with hard floor (and dog poo on cement) scrubbing, they don’t even threaten to shred or run...unlike the past two brands.
* Tight weave, yet still soft. Makes for a strong towel that a dog and toddler can’t rip when they’re playing tug of war!
* Thicker than expected for a cost-effective washcloth. It was difficult to get an accurate pic with not enough hands, but after washing and folding they’re about an in and a half in height.
CONS
* Amazon lists size as 12”x12”. As you can see in the photos, they are more like 11”x11.5. This was right out of package prior to washing and drying.
* Lavender color was more of a deeper purple. See photos - not even close in color. But I don’t care, they work!
Overall, these are an exceptional product for an exceptional price. They save me money, are nice in presentation rolled up in my guest bath, and are useful for literally everything without showing much wear and wash up like nothing happened. I am SO impressed. Seriously, look around on the site, you will see that you will pay double and triple for the same number of washcloths that don’t hold up as well.
I swear on my kids’ lives I wasn’t compensated for this review. We just really like them. :-) Hope this was helpful!!
This is my third Amazon Basics item and I'm pleased! Seriously, 24 washcloths for $12ish? It's a great value.
I usually buy washcloths in a large pack at Walmart. I divide them and use them for general cleaning in the kitchen, bathroom and literally to clean floors (like Cinderella - not kidding).
When these came I was a little startled by how big the package was. I rechecked how much I had paid and again, was pleased. Before I washed them they were indeed 12inches X 12 inches. They felt a little thin. After washing and drying with nothing more special than Charlie's soap and the dryer's energy saving cycle; they shrunk evenly to 11 inches X 11 inches. Now they feel a little thicker and so soft that I'm wondering if I should mark several to keep as actual washcloths for us - the people. Because when I start cleaning with them they will get rather gross. I live in the desert and I'm in constant battle with desert dust and my cleaning washcloths show it.
I told my husband that the new washcloths' brand was Amazon Basics. Amusing, right? But so far the quality of their brand reminds me of a Target brand item. Which means, good and competitively priced.
For the price I am thrilled.
I wasn't sure what to expect for such a low price. I read the reviews and decided to try these out for myself. I left one washcloth out to compare after I washed and dried the rest.
Right out of the bag they felt thicker than I had expected. For $13.99, I honestly was thinking they would be cleaning rags or make up removing rags. These Amazon Basic Washcloths aren't too thick nor to thin, but just like I prefer them. I think they will continue to get fluffier with several more wash cycles. They did shrink, but since they were a bit larger anyway it isn't that big of a deal to me. They are still a great size.
I received 24 washcloths as advertised. I also didn't have any trouble with them breaking, tearing, or coming apart during washing or drying. I did have one little string that came up. I cut it off and it looks as good as new. I posted a photo of it below.
Overall, I think these are an amazing deal and I am currently ordering my second set. I would recommend these to anyone needing some new washcloths. If you are wanting thick, egyptian cotton.. super pillowy washcloths ...then these aren't for you.
If you are wanting a good quality...100% cotton washcloth than you will love these. They are definitely better quality than expected for such a low price and for the amount you get.
I would definitely recommend these and buy these again! :)
I'm apprehensive buying terry cloth items like these online, I'm really picky about how they feel & work, so I just ordered one pkg to find out but after they came I ended up coming back to order 2 more! (I needed a lot of washcloths as it's definitely time to toss my old ones into the rag bag, 72 may have been overkill!) These feel and look high quality, very thick & soft! Very happy with my purchase!
I used a dollar store wire basket & Hawaiian Lei to make a holder/display for the bathroom.
Boardwalk 16GREEN Green Seal Recycled Paper Towel Roll, Hardwound, Universal Roll Towels, Natural, 8" x 800 ft (Case of 6)
This was ok, but regular paper towels still did a much better job absorbing liquid.
Recently, I saw a video of a woman using small cloths. So I decided to give it a shot. I bought kitchen wash clothes.
So far this is the best option: they absorb liquids even better than paper towels and can be reused. I throw them in the washing machine with my clothes. Cost-wise they are great too. $14 for 24 cloths - how much you would pay for a 6 rolls of paper towels that you end up throwing away. Obviously, they won't last forever, but probably a long time.

Description
An Amazon Brand.
I love these things! I was skeptical at first about whether I would really need 24 of them, but man are they useful. I use them for any cleaning-type thing you can think of. I don't know how I went without them. I particularly like using one to make sure the faucets and other kitchen/bathroom hardware are shiny (I live in a dorm; it's the simple pleasures in life). It gives me a lot of pride, having shiny hardware. Anyway, I obviously use one for my face when I wash it, and I use one when I work out too. And I lay one out when I have to go through the tedious process of cleaning all 12 of my earrings (6 in each ear, and I plan to get more). And I use one for polishing my silver jewelry. They're so useful. Yes, you really do need a lot of these around the house. I imagine they'd be good for cleaning up spills, too, if I ever made a mess. (Ha, I kid.) I hate the idea of wasting paper towel when you have a million of these so you can afford to throw several in the hamper and still have the others to hold you over until laundry day. Who would have thought something as simple as having 24 washcloths would make life so much easier? Writing this review actually put me in a pretty good mood. Thank you, AmazonBasics.
I don't think I've washed any single one more than ~4 times so far and haven't noticed any unraveling, but I will update if that ends up happening. They are decent quality and seem to be holding up well so far. Also, mine did not come with stickers that had to be removed before washing. I remember reading that review and really desperately hoping I would remember about that before washing them.
Very pleased with this product.
I was tired of buying washcloths at our local big box stores and franchises: they didn't wear well; even in the middle price range they are often finished with overcast stitching of a raw edge that ravels and loses bits of thread and pile in use and washing. The fabrics are often so loosely woven that the looped pile pulls out or snags, and the fabric tears all too soon, Also, most washcloths have a wide fancy border that shrinks and pulls in in hot water, so they never lie flat again.
These AmazonBasics in contrast are HEMMED on all 4 sides, and there is no fancy border to shrink. The hems do not shrink either, The fabric is dense and wearing very well, and already outlasting an expensive name brand I received as a gift.
The only thing I don't like is the enormous plastic coated TAG. Why anyone would want such a thing on a washcloth baffles me. You have to cut it off very close to rhea seam or else scratchy edges remain. If you are not careful doing this, you may cut the hem stitching too. So taking the tags off is a nuisance.
I would definitely buy these again, but they are performing so well it will be some time before I need more.
So I saw these cute cloths for sale on Amazon. I thought the pink cloths would be great for my make up room. I received them and was so impressed how thick they felt. I have washed them over and over and haven’t had one loose thread. I think people have had issues because they whipped the tags off the cloths. I cut the tags off mine and it didn’t pull any stitching. They are still nice and thick after washing about 20 times. They were a great bargain. I am purchasing the different colors for each bathroom. It makes it easier when doing laundry. Each bathroom has there own color towels and cloths. The edges has a very nice raised band.
While these aren't luxury towels, of course, they're pretty good quality. The last time I bought white washcloths in bulk, they were thin, very rough, and had a grey cast. These are bright, soft, and medium thickness.
I’m an Esthetician (skin care expert), and know that using the same washcloth over and over, even if it’s just to dry your face, spreads bacteria. And that just splashing your face w/ water after your cleanser doesn’t get all the dirt and grime off. You DEF want to be very gentle w/ any cloths you use, but these are nice and soft, and allow you to wipe off cleansers, facial masques, and makeup & feel like you’re at a spa. Sometimes I use up to 4 a day, and they still last 6days without me having to wash them! Once one is wet/dirty, just throw it in a little bucket or basket somewhere, then wash them all once they’re all dirty, it’s sooo easy & convenient, & they can be bleached due to them being white. If you want a spa experience at an amazing price, check these out!
