Holmes Window Fan with with Twin 6-Inch Reversible Airflow Blades, White

Holmes Window Fan with with Twin 6-Inch Reversible Airflow Blades, White

These fans are great ! I purchased 2. One for my bedroom and one for the living room. They really circulate the air and draw in the cool air from outside. I live in North/central Florida and want to take full advantage of the cool nights while they last before I have to crank on the AC to have a comfortable nights sleep.

Are they loud? I don't think so. Anyone that has used a box fan or oscillating fan should fine these fans relatively quiet for their size. Ceiling fans really dry out my eyes for some reason but I haven't had that problem with this window fan.

The color. No it's not a pure white. Its more of a bone, ash color. Which doesn't bother me one bit.

The manual issue. I dont know if the description was changed after all the complaints I've read. But it clearly states that you can manually reverse the air flow. Just flip the fan around for christ's sake. It's not that big a deal ! I haven't had to use the reverse air flow so I can't comment on how effectively it draws hot air out. I know I am very satisfied at the rate it draws in the cool air from outside.

Can't speak on the longevity of the fans as I recently purchased them

Obsessed! Fits my window perfectly and allows me to turn the AC off at night and suck the cold air from outside - into my room! I use this to cool down my master bedroom since it's on the backside of my house and doesn't receive a breeze I keep it on low and it keeps the room cool and smelling fresh!

Works pretty well on warm nights, better on cooler nights. I use it in conjunction with a whole house fan and a pedestal fan to get the most out of it. But it doesn't do much if it's on a lower setting. Works best on the highest setting. Does what I intended though, which was prolong the amount of time I could survive without having to drag a window unit upstairs. Doing so has helped keep electric bills lower for almost the first half of summer. As long as temps stay below the 80's this will be useful for you. Once it's above 88 or so, you're going to want something stronger. All in all, seems pretty sturdy and worth the 16 bucks. Probably not worth more than that though.

This powerful, reliable, low cost fan has been a life saver during this summer's heatwave! I placed it vertically in my double paned bedroom window, and it dropped the temperature in my room drastically in a matter of minutes. I've found that if I leave it on throughout the night in low, I actually have to turn it off or put more covers on, because it's too cold! The only downfall is that it only comes with one window extender, so it leaves a large gap if you mount it vertically, No problem though, as I ordered some extra extenders directly from Holmes for only $2 a piece!

I've had this for about 5 months and it's been great! My room is in the attic and about 12' x 10'. Since its upstairs and gets the heat from the furnace, located in the crawl space attached to my room; the heat moving upward from downstairs; and the heat from the shingles on the roof, it can get unbearably hot. I keep the heater vent opened a quarter of the way and put this fan in the window on low and the room reaches a comfortable temperature. It's a little loud, but it works well. It drops the temp from ~86* F to ~75* F degrees F having the fan on low in the open window.

I have an odd sized window. The space available for the width for the fan is only 20". This fan was a little larger than I wanted, but I knew I would have to modify and fan I got because all the fans I saw were larger than my window. This fan was very easy to modify to fit my window! The fan has a large ~1-2" nub which, ironically for my purpose, allows attachment of an extra extender. I cut off the nub, CAREFULLY, by scoring the plastic repeatedly with a utility knife. Cut away from yourself if you try my stupid utility knife method. I don't recommend it, I only use it as an example of how easy it was to modify to fit into a 20" space.

I also use an extendable screen that I secured to the outside of my window with mounting tape and a couple binder clips.

Dual window fans are a good thing to have here in the summer months. Especially when the house heats up and the night air outside is trapped out there and you need something to draw it in. I have had several over the years. They have a life expectancy of about 3 seasons for me before they start to act up, or get too filthy to want to use anymore. This Holmes model is just about as cheap as they come. Nothing special about it at all, just twin fans that do the job. This one is even a little cheaper than most for it doesn't even bother to include slide out panels for both sides, just a filler panel that may not see your fan being centered in your window if that's important to you. Even though the blades on this and fan openings are decent size, the unit itself is not very big so make sure to measure carefully. The only other thing about this fan that could be aggravating to some is the fact that you can't reverse the fans for exaust without turning it around. That's not a problem for me for I have never used one of these for exhaust, just to draw in outside air. Altogether an entry level fan that does the job and comes at a good price... Recommended.. : )

I agree with the other reviewer that said you can't rate a product with a low price point the same as one with a high price point. This is an inexpensive fan, so don't expect the quality of the ones that cost two or three times as much. That being said, I keep this in my window all summer. I live on a dirt road, and my fans just get so dirty that I end up replacing them every one or two years, so I decided to go the cheaper route. I'll be going back to the more expensive ones after this purchase.

First, it's loud. Not even consistent loud, it's like a buzzing noise that gets higher and lower in pitch, so it's pretty distracting. Every time the wind picks up a little outside, the fan runs faster and gets louder. The first time I turned it on, I thought one of my neighbors was running some sort of equipment in their yard, and looked outside a few times before I realized it was my fan.

Second, it is not reversible. The only way to reverse it is to take it out of the window and turn it around. Other reviews mentioned this, I wish that I would have read them. There are switches on both sides of the fan, so it can go in your window either way, but the fans themselves are not reversible.

Other than that, it's a decent fan. It fits in my window much better than the last one I bought. It's easy to expand and fits in the window tightly.

I purchased several of these and a few other brands and models. I use them in the windows to circulate air and bring cooler evening air in to cool down the rooms when it's been hot all day. I live in Southern Cal, where it's always Sunny and the days can get into the 100s. I have central air, but found these lower the temp in the rooms a good 8 degrees too start, and more as the night gets cooler, reaching the need for AC or reviving the length of time the AC has to work to cool...I mean, if your starting with a room that's 8-10 degrees cooler already, it makes sense you won't have to run the AC as long to reach your desired temp, right? These only work well if your outside air temp is cooler than inside, so they're are places that these just aren't going to help in the summer. It's mid June and I haven't had to turn on the AC yet, these make the temps at night much more comfortable. Normally I would have had first $400 plus electric bill buy this time. These are not mechanically reversible, meaning of you want to use them to exhaust (blow the warm air out) you have to physically turn them around, which isn't difficult and only takes a minute. I also have the mechanically reversible ones, but for the price difference I prefer these. They blow a good amount of air, not like a box fan but enough to make a measurable difference. I have some of these from last year and I have not had any durability problems work them, they are still working fine. Tip... The blades collect dust. It's very easy to clean them using an air compressor or even remove the great and cleaning that way. I believe cleaning them will increase the longevity and keep dust from coming inside of your home.

After ~12 years my ~$19.99 pedestal fan's motor began to whistle, so I put a FREE sign on it and set it out on the street and someone grabbed it in like 3 seconds flat. :-) Anyhow, this was the fan in my office and it's where my dogs sleeps at night, I had already been looking at fans and I decided to buy my first "window fan" , in my 45 years I have seen them around but I have never tried one so this is my first. I bought the fan at Target for just over $20 after using a few discount I had. It installed very easy in the sliding window in my office, I was sort of disappointed that it only had a low and high because I almost always use medium or high settings on all of my fans, however it turned out that the low setting on this fan is more like medium so that is nice. The first night of use I lowered the blinds in my office and closed them about ~60% and the blinds directed the air down on my dogs bed so she gets a nice breeze all night. About 5am the next morning I decided to go in my office and lay with my dog for a bit. BTW I also have a table fan on low that is directly pointed at my dog so she for sure stays comfortable. Anyhow I came in the office and layed down and it was chilly so I shut off the table fan and that did nothing, it was the Holmes window fan that was making it cold, man this fan is awesome. And just this morning I came into the office and it was down right cold! I love this fan!

My expectations were low at this price point but not only does this little fan move a lot of air it's quieter than I expected and well-designed. The variable with attachment and sliding panel make it easy to fit in different windows very quickly and the molding on top is designed to keep an environmental seal so the only air coming in or out is the air from the fan.
