Spartan Training Spear With Throw Rope, Race Training Spear

Spartan Training Spear With Throw Rope, Race Training Spear

Spartan Training Spear With Throw Rope, Race Training Spear

At a Spartan event only about 14% of participants (on average) are able to hit the target for the spear throw. The unfortunate 86% who miss must suffer the agonizing 30 burpee penalty. Spartan racers get only one try to hit the target. You can watch as many YouTube videos offering spear throwing tips as you like, but unless you actually have a means of practicing the technique with a real spear it's pretty much a waste of time. Which brings us to this item. It's really sturdy. In practice, I've missed my target and clanged it off iron fences and bounced it off concrete block walls. It's really taken a beating and has held up quite well. The spear's plastic collar has gotten chipped up but the spear point remains sharp and solid.

If you have a Spartan on the horizon, here's what I recommend: Buy this spear along with a couple of "Drew Polystyrene Foam Archery Targets" (also on Amazon). Rig up the targets on a table in your back yard with some weighted backing (I have a couple of kettlebells in a generic blue Lowe's plastic bucket on the table behind the target. This is all held together with bungee cords.) (There are couple of YouTube vids that offer some guidance on this set up). Mark off a 25 foot distance and start practicing.

Spear technique is highly idiosyncratic. The guys in the YouTube Spartan instructional vids will offer advice on throwing , but developing a technique for routinely hitting the target with this spear is something you'll have to work out for yourself. Patience is required. Lots. Also, when you practice, keep in mind that it is only that first "cold" throw that really counts.

As a regular “Amazon prime” member I’m spoiled, and disappointed at the shipping cost ($16.49) to receive this item. That’s as far as the negative goes- shipping. That being said, my wife is upset at yet another purchase on my end to get ready for another OCR, I however am happier than a child receiving a wanted gift that arrive without being Christmas or a birthday. This came as a complete package- Spear w/ Rope, solid, sturdy, & pretty nice looking until I beat it up in practice (which is its intended use- beat up prop). Craftmenship is superb, I am beyond pleased.
The rope is great cause I used it to pace my target distance, & can retrieve the spear with it on those missed throws. I wrap the rope around the handle for compact storage purposes. (4) thumbs up ; -)

The spear was pretty much exactly what was used in the Spartan Sprint. I nailed the obstical after practicing with this spear. They say 84% of people miss, so it's worth the practice. I didn't notice the rope in the bottom of the package until after my race was over. However I now have it attached for future practice. You will have a rope attached to the end in your race.

Quality product. Well built, great price. Seller also has quick communication. I will recommend this spear to my friends without hesitation.

Ordered this only two days ago and it has already arrived. The spear is nearly identical to the one we used in the Spartan race and is well made. The only way to really nail this event is to practice in advance. We were able to borrow a 2' x 2' cube archery target that we hung on an tree. It's smaller than the target in the race, but makes for great practice since if you can consistently hit it, you will do well to hit the larger target used in the race. We are looking forward to avoiding burpees in the next race.

Excellent spear for Spartan training. Workmanship is top-notch!

Spear throw is the one obstacle you can’t prepare for unless you have it. For me, figuring out how to make a good one on YouTube was annoying and difficult. This spear is basically the same thing as the event one. Made well and he knows what he’s doing. Worth the price, good quality and no hassle... now the search for hay is on!

Great product and just what I need to train for - Spartan races to not do 30 burpees. Delivery was on time and shipped as expected. Product is well made. Durable for many throws against a target block. Even bought my buddy one as well for his home training!!!

The spear throws well. I'm happy with the purchase. Be aware the order is for a Spear. singular even though the picture shows 3, the text says spear, not spearS.

Actual weight and style. Go Spartans. Great for practices These are awesome
