BLACK+DECKER BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum, 20-volt

BLACK+DECKER BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum, 20-volt

BLACK+DECKER BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum, 20-volt

This BDL2000PL battery powered hand vacuum surpasses the Dust Busters of the past by a mile, even the higher voltage ones that had replaceable batteries. Those Dust Buster replacement batteries cost as much or even more then the vacuum did.
I purchased this vacuum in Dec 2015, it's now March 2018. No regrets buying this vacuum. the vacuum still has great suction and the battery holds up well. Probably because it is no longer powered by NiCad batteries.
Nice that the base can be mounted on the wall in your laundry room where I installed ours. You will learn to clean the filter and empty the dirt compartment regularly. Easy to empty the dirt compartment but also to easy to forget to clean the filter which takes some time to do. A sign filter needs cleaning is you will notice that the motor runs faster then normal. Imagine running the vacuum and then place your hand over the intake of the vacuum, motor speeds up.
B&D claims this vacuum has cyclonic action to distribute the dirt all around the pleated filter which it does pretty well with small dirt particles but big stuff will stack up on top of the filter right where all the dirt comes in and not distribute around the filter so you really need to empty the filter chamber then. You may need a slim object like a screw driver to dislodge the big junk in front of the filter.
Sand--you will find that sand will fall back out the vacuum opening when tilted down because the check valve is not that great so best to simply empty the dirt chamber.
I have an air compressor so it has been easy to clean the removable filter. If no compressor it can be cleaned with garden hose spray or sink sprayer if you don't mind getting what was on the floor into your sanitary sink.
I would buy this vacuum again.

So far, I'm pretty impressed. I've only had this vacuum for a week but it certainly does a good job. I've had a cheap hand vacuum in the past, and it worked well but was nothing special. You realize immediately when you turn it on and hear it start to go, it's got a LOT more power than your standard hand vacuum. The thing has some serious pull and doesn't leave anything on the ground as you go over it. It seems to have no trouble with most small size items, the opening is a pretty standard size as a normal hand vacuum, and it's really thorough with the small stuff like dust.

I subtract a star for the design of the debris catch and the filter. This thing does a great job picking up pet hair, but getting the pet hair out of the device and into the trash can isn't as easy as opening it up and turning it over. The debris catch is small with a large filter in the middle, so hair gets wedged between it. I'm not so prude I can't reach in to pick out the hair that's stuck, but I'd certainly prefer not having to do that. Also, though the filter is effective, it seems really easy to get large dust/sand particles stuck inside the housing of the filter. It's another step to access the filter to empty that out, and certainly not something I want to have to do after every use.

Will see how this product does over time, and I'll update. So far it seems to be a top of the line handheld minus the few issues I mentioned.

Has worked great, fantastic suction. More than enough battery life. The young grand kids even get a kick out of using it.

Then it died. Yep, exactly one year after I had purchased it, kaput. Would no longer charge. I looked up the invoice, clicked on warranty, saw that it has two years, then Googled BD repair facilities, had one 3 mile down the road. Brought it in at 8 am the next day, nice gentleman took my info, took the unit and said I would be receiving a new one as they don't repair these types. This was a Friday. On Tuesday the door bell rang and I saw UPS driving off. The new one was delivered. Fantastic and EASY return process.

Thanks B+D. Enjoying my new vacuum, works fantastic.

I purchased the vacuum after much research and I was not disappointed! Overall, I am incredibly happy with the product but here are a few things to consider before buying them yourself:

Pros: It looks very sleek. It looks really good on its charging port as well! I don't mind displaying out in the open. It also is quite compact when stored in its charging dock which is a plus. Its suction is great! I think that was the number one thing that I was looking for in a hand held vacuum as ones in the past had issues with this.

Cons: The one gripe I have with this vacuum and for you to consider is that it's actually a little awkward using it. The head is a lot shorter than it looks in the picture and it makes it awkward to hold for some reason. It's probably more of my own preference than anything but something to consider.

***update***
I've had this product for several months now and it is still working great!!! Suction still works great, battery life is good and it's cleaned up quite a bit of mess for us in the last few month.

But, there is one more thing for the buyer to consider that I noticed with more use. There is a rubber lip inside that prevents anything sucked into the vacuum from coming out. It works great for that purpose. But, one continuous issue I am having is bigger particles getting stuck in-between the lip and the filter. There isn't a whole lot of space between them and anything bigger than dust will get stuck there. When I go to dump the mess in the trash, I often have to reach in there and pick out whatever is wedged in there. Not a deal breaker by any means, but nevertheless an annoyance for you to consider.

***update***
Recently, after having the product for about 6 months, the hinge on my vacuum broke. I recently read a review that indicated the same issue. For the overall good quality of the rest of the vacuum, this plastic hinge for the door is a little disappointing. We have used it daily, so by no means has the vacuum been handled with delicacy. BUT, who has time to treat their vacuum delicately! It just needs to work to clean up all of those messes your kids make! I could not find any way to contact costumer service on Amazon so decided to go to their website directly. Their website is not the easiest to navigate and finding the contact information too a few minutes but once I put in my request, I received a response within a few days. They did not have any spare parts or had any solutions for a fix but they were able to send me a replacement unit for free of charge. I know Amazon has you buy a 2 year warranty but I saw on the Black and Decker website that the two year warranty was included in the purchase. Not sure if it does not apply to the batch on Amazon but I have a hard time seeing black and decker not honoring the warranty. I don't know if I was covered or they were being nice, but I do appreciate the good customer service! So if you have a similar issue and your vacuum is less than 2 years old, try contacting them directly about the issue. Besides the hinge, this is still a great vacuum.

So far so good. I bought another Black + Decker handheld vacuum about a year ago (without insurance) and it stopped working after a year of good, solid use. Fair enough. I decided to get this model instead of replacing the other model we had and it works really well so far. Great suction, charge lasts a long time, sort of easy to empty (you can't just open and flip over to dump out. Linty things need to get pulled out and it's a tight squeeze trying to pull it out by hand, which grosses me out. I have an old chopstick I use to get stuff out.). I've read reviews on how flimsy the door can be and I'm paranoid I'm going to break the door seal. So, vacuums great, but cleaning is a bit of a doozy. I got the insurance this time around, but reviews about B+D not being responsive worries me. Overall, I am really happy with this vacuum thus far!

Portability and power is great, its encouraged my 5year old son to clean hard to reach places in his room and around the house. Functionally it changes angle which is easier to get between cushions. Cleanups are simple with the side door, but sometimes long debris like grass, straw, dry spaghetti noodles, get stuck in the spot between the snorkel and have to be manipulated out which is a hassle, but works well in spite of that. The battery lasts about 20-25min. Which is adequate for me, but my son roams the house looking for things to vacuum up with it on. I ordered this at a great price and paid extra for next day shipping and it showed as delivered in tracking history, but I never received it. I sent an email asking for details on who accepted it and where it was delivered and they sent another out for delivery immediately, I was in disbelief, it arrived and it was exactly as I'd hoped, simple and easy to use. Yes, I'd buy another if/when it wears out. Design improvement: better access to the snorkel to the dustbin for easier cleaning of jam-ups. I had hoped to keep it in my SUV for easy cleanups of tiny gravel and dry grass, but I can't keep it out of the house very long before someone starts asking where it is, cause they need it.

Edit on 2/16/16 - I contacted B&D via email and they promptly responded. They immediately shipped a replacement unit which arrived in less than 4 days. Way to go B&D! Great customer service and product coverage. This swift response made all the difference in the world and seeing how they handled and backed their product, I would now definitely buy B&D products again without any hesitation. Back to 5 stars.

4/12/16 - I would have given this product 5 stars but it stopped functioning properly after less than 1.5 yrs of very light/infrequent use.
The unit design incorporates a "progressive start" where the motor slowly starts up and reaches a full suction power in about 3 seconds.
Now, when I turn it on, the motor just keeps turning over and over trying to start it up as if the battery has no juice to push it over the limit to begin creating full suction. The battery is charged because once in a blue moon the motor turns a few times and the unit starts up. At that point it runs perfectly with full suction. But the issue persists to the point that it's useless.
Otherwise, so far it's been a fantastic unit and it's a power monster for vacuuming. the 20V battery is excellent and provides a ton of power. The suction is outstanding. It conveniently rotates into multiple positions as well which I liked. Unfortunately it looks like there are some motor/electric issues that prevent it from starting up correctly.
I wrote to B&D to see if they'd do something about it. If they stand behind their product and fix it, i will come back and update to 5 starts, otherwise it stays at two stars at best. I've had cheaper dust busters that lasted for years until the battery would no longer hold much charge.
it's too soon to have a product of this type go defective.

Sucks quite well. Have had for 5 months. Works well. Can burn through a charge pretty quickly, but only because it is reving a pretty powerful motor.

This is not that terrible Dust Buster that barely sucks up a Cheerio. This thing is a hand held vacuum.

Saw that others have broken their dirt doors off, so I am mindful of this as I empty it. So not a problem. Cleans out pretty easily.

Knocked off one star for the extension sucker. I bought this to easily clean my car, and the telescoping narrow sucker is just not narrow enough. It does not get into crevasses, and that's a real pain. It's also annoying to push back in when you do use it. Also, the brush option folds back under if you try to scrub a carpet too aggressively, making it less of a convenience.

All in all, it's a good vac because outside of those two options, it functions well.

This is one of those purchases that I wished I had done earlier. I have owned it for a few months now and it makes cleaning up messes simple. I leave it plugged in and charging and pull it out for a quick vacuum. It is easy to take a part to clean.

The absolute best part is that it is pretty good at cleaning up pet hair. That was important to me as I have a dog and hate when I have hair everywhere. I use this to spot clean, and then my normal vacuum on the weekends.

Had to put this bad boy through its paces before I could make a review, and if anything crazy occurs in the future, I'll have to modify my review. So to start off, this thing is very space saving and compact. I live in a small apartment that is fully not carpet, however I do have a dog and a couch, so a full size vacuum is not in the books for that. It is loud haha, which is fine because it is a vacuum, but that noise shows the power and prowess of the vacuum. In all seriousness though, the Black and Decker MAX Lithium Pivot compact vacuum is exactly as advertised and really easy to use. I love using mine for a quick swipe on the couch to get rid of some dog hair and crumbs, or the floor because I'm a slob. It works, and works well. I haven't used it long enough to really know how long the battery lasts, but I don't see that as a problem, as well as I haven't noticed any reduction in suction either, but I typically embark on small stints with this bad boy. I plan on taking it and cleaning my car with it too since it works well enough in the house the few times I do need to use it.
The filters come out, which I like however it is a bit of a mind game to take care of it, and the filter is washable which is great because having to buy filters all the time stinks. The handy brush attachment comes attached and i think it's great, out of the way if you don't need it and easy to access and use when you do need it. All and all if you look over the manual quick and get a quick guide in how to use this thing and what all the buttons are, you will not be disappointed. If you go into this thing expecting it to be something it is not, then you will be disappointed. This isn't a major vacuum, this isn't a Dyson/Shark, however it is compact and perfect for small jobs, where a broom and dust pan just won't do the proper job.
I became nostalgic of my grandmother using her dust buster, and now me using my pivot to take care of small messes and crumbs. The price isn't too bad, and for the power and portability you get from this vacuum, to me it was well worth it.
