Ontel Arctic Personal Air Cooler, White

Ontel Arctic Personal Air Cooler, White

Ontel Arctic Personal Air Cooler, White

The people that 1 star this do not understand evaporative cooling. They are expecting a little AC unit that blows cold air. That's not what this is. It's a big improvement over a regular fan. The water in the filter evaporates and cools the air several degrees depending on the weather. If there is a lot of humidity, not much water is going to evaporate, thus not much cooling. With dry air, more water can evaporate and you can get some impressive cooling. Since I have a Solar system on my yacht, I am always looking for low power ways to cool things down in the summer. I have some science background and read all about evaporative cooling. It was actually the air conditioning system of the Pharoahs! In a perfect world, an evaporative cooler will cool the air down to the "wet bulb" temperature. You can get an App on your phone to calculate what that temperature is from your weather report using temperature and % relative humidity. The article I read says most evaporative coolers have an efficiency of 85% or better, so your cooler will get most of the way down to that wet bulb temperature. It can be only 6 degrees cooler in humid weather, and over 20 degrees cooler in dry weather. I bought 5 for my yacht, 2 in the bow, 3 in the stern. They do a good job and they are very low power. I have a pretty large solar system and I can run them on battery power. I can keep them going 24 hours a day if I need to. Nothing beats a full on air conditioner, but these guys are fun. It's tough to keep up with the Texas sun in August when it's 100 degrees out. It would normally turn an enclosed cabin into an oven in minutes. I can't say these guys make it cool in the heat of the day, but what they can do is make it reasonably warm. You don't sweat much, and you can stay inside indefinitely without being miserable. I tried two of them in my car. If you park under a tree in the shade, then put up the windshield visor, you can actually sit there and read or whatever and not burn up. It's pretty fun! What they really do best is at night. Normally it would be like 80 degrees in the cabin, and I have spent many a night tossing and turning because it's no fun trying to sleep when you're too hot. It's been a fact of life for me as long as I've been a boat owner. These guys can knock off that last 10 degrees and it's really nice. It's a cool balmy breeze like you're at the beach. By 3AM you are looking for a blanket so you don't get a chill! I really like making a cocktail and listening to some island music with the LED mood lights on. It's a great time! You can close your eyes and you are in the Carribean! In the house, for that room that's a good 10 degrees too hot, these guys do a great job too! Your air conditioner has already taken a lot of the moisture out of the air, so you are ready to go. I find myself using them at home to get that cool balmy sleepy feeling and I am out like a light. … plus my trip to the ocean can happen as soon as I turnout the lights!

**Updating this with all the negative attacks of 'fake review' -- it is NOt a fake review. Check out my profile and you can see that. THIS UNIT COOlS YOU OFF PERSONALLY IN YOUR PERSONAL SPACE NEAR THE UNIT - NOT THE ENTIRE OFFICE OR ROOM. It blows very very cold air and is lovely. My office is ridiculously hot and really uncomfortable. The fan I had on my desk was loud, and blew my hair around and distracted me. More importantly, though, blowing hot air at me did not help. This unit has made my office pleasant and comfortable for the first time ever. The unit comes out ready to use, except just add water. It works exactly as directions state: fill the tank, let it absorb for 5 mins then start it up and you will feel lovely cool air gently coming out. Really cool like A/C, not a fan. I actually got too cold on high, so I use it on the 2nd setting (there are 3 settings). I like also that you can power it via USB on your laptop or use the traditional plug adapter. One thing I found though, it says it one tank of water will power on low for 8 hours (like 18 -20 oz?) but mine I have to refill several times a day -- I'm assuming my office is not only HOT but very dry as well.
I am really raving about this -- it's pretty life changing if you are miserable and feel sick being too hot at work.

This little cooler certainly shocked me. I was not expecting for it to blow such cool air steadily. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's definetly a great addition to any personal space

I rarely write reviews, but this one's worth it.
I bought the Arctic Air for my Rottweiler's crate. He's just south of 100lbs and always hot. Unfortunately I'm always cold and don't like expensive utility bills. So I figured I'd give this a shot as a compromise.
You can see in the pics that he's in an Impact dog crate in the corner of the living room.
I filled the Arctic Air with water from the fridge and turned it on high. The apartment thermostat is set to 77 degrees. I attached a camera and the cooler to the crate door with zip ties. It's pretty light even when full so was easy to secure to the bars.
Pic 3 is right after he came in from his walk and running around the apartment. Five minutes later he's cooled down enough to chew on his bone. By the time I got to work he was snoozing comfortably, meaning it has to be less than 72 degrees in there.
I was wary of purchasing the Arctic Air because of the mixed reviews, but I felt it was worth a try for an enclosed space that measures 48"L*33"H*29"W. Sure enough it works for my intended purpose so far.
My only complaint is I wish the tank was bigger. Turned on high it needs to be refilled by the time I get home for lunch. I'll experiment with it on the different setting and update if anything changes.

I wouldn't expect this little thing to cool a room, so keep your expectations down.

That said, as a desktop swamp-style cooler in a warm office, this is brilliant. Fairly quiet on low, but louder than expected on high.

My office is at the front of our house where the afternoon sun shines in. It gets warmer than the rest of the house so I thought this would be a great thing to help keep me cool! It's AMAZING. I was really surprised at how long it produces cool air, and it's small enough it doesn't take up a bunch of space! Highly recommend it, and I love it.

ONTEL AA-MC4 Arctic Air Personal Space & Portable Cooler | The Quick & Easy Way to Cool Any Space, As Seen On TV YES - "ONTEL AA-MC4 Arctic Air" - THIS IS THE BEST ONE - This one has the largest cooling capacity, is very quiet, easiest to fill, clean, and has beautiful lights, which really didn't matter to me but it is a nice touch. You can easily fill this unit and see the water reservoir clearly marking when to stop. I have actually had to move it back from me as I was quite chilled with it at about 2 feet away. At 4 feet it much better. Really great product! Also tried to dry the filter as instructed and had no issues. Again, easy to use and works much better than expected!! Am going to buy a couple more for my bedroom, yoga room and son's gaming room. Thank you!

NOT EVEN CLOSE - $59.99 "Anbber Portable Air Conditioner" - VERY SMALL AND DOESN'T COOL - (Check out the comparison in the attached photos). This one is much smaller compared to the other 2 and is more expensive than the ONTEL. There is a tiny hole to fill the water and you have to add a little at a time with a provided funnel, that will surely get lost or misplaced. The LED light feature too is very dim, only being visible completely dark. Cleaning this one was much more difficult, and the surface space for the cooling vent was really a joke. I could barely feel the difference even though I had it on high and waited the recommended time. I am going to send this one back to get another ONTEL.

NO, NO, NO - DEFINITELY DOES NOT WORK - $79.38 "Homedics MyChill Personal Space Cooler" - AFTER A FEW DAYS THE UNIT LEAKS AND IS NOT WORTH IT - (Don't have photos as this is in my office, now on the floor so the leaking doesn't damage any more papers, electronics, and desk wood). This unit is as large as the ONTEL, and for the short time it worked, it did cool well too. However, at some point about a week, after I had it, it started leaking the full contents of the water reservoir included in the tank onto my desk, laptop, and important papers. I tried everything to fix this, as it was nearly $90 and needed to cool my office. However, after attempting every recommendation, including buying a new fitter, it still will not work. I was over this, thus making me research other models and purchasing the ones included above. On a plus note, it is attractive looking, but if it doesn't work that really doesn't matter. Hoping I can find out from my friend how to return it too to Amazon since it is a POS.

I have a beautiful office, with full floor to ceiling windows and an awesome view from the fifth floor. I very much enjoy viewing the amusement rides at Universal Studios and it's Islands of Adventures each day, however, by 1 pm the sun beams directly onto the windows heating my office to an unbearable 90+ degrees. Finding a way to cool my office has become necessary and besides these smaller units on my desk.

I have added this fan (which also works well): "NewAir Portable Evaporative Air Cooler" - https://smile.amazon.com/NewAir-Portable-Evaporative-Humidifier-AF-310/dp/B009KGB4FK?keywords=air+conditioner+cooling+tower+fan&qid=1538267144&sr=8-6&ref=sr_1_6

I have also ordered this as well: "Honeywell CS074AE Evaporative 200 CFM Indoor Portable Cooler" - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CQ41RWS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would love to hear anyone else's suggestions/advice. Thank you!

So far, love what it’s putting out. Feels lovely and super cool. It’s in my sons nursery, so I’m going to see if it will actually keep a room cool. Here’s to hoping. But I lllike it so far!

Doesn't push a ton of air - this would need hours to cool an average sized bedroom. However, if you aim it directly at you then the cooling power is significant. At fan speed 2 it is very effective and makes for an excellent night's sleep. Not too loud - reminds me of a white noise machine. An excellent cooler for the price!

This little cooler works well, keeps a bubble (about 10 feet in diameter) of cool air in a room at 70 degrees, very comfortable. Won't cool down your house or a large room but keeps a 10x10 room tolerable when it's 80 degrees and above outside. Helpful hint, as long as you keep water in the tank and the unit running you don't need to worry about mold or mildew build up, that being said about every tenth tank I throw in a cap full of Lysol liquid cleaner to help make sure there's no mold or mildew build up, makes the room smell nice too.
