Hoover SmartWash Carpet Washer with CLEANPLUS 2X 64oz Carpet Cleaner and Deodorizer

I have both Hoover and Bissell carpet cleaners and never found one that I really loved. All have done the job (sort of) but each has had its own shortcomings. This Automatic Carpet Cleaner from Hoover is certainly a step up. It does a better job than any of the other cleaners I've had, and it is very easy to use. But it has a few shortcomings. First, it doesn't have a button to spray extra detergent if needed. The cord is a bit short so you have to plug and unplug it several times. The hose is good, but it would be better if it was 2 feet longer. But other than that, it is a big step forward in home carpet cleaning.

Seriously i don’t want to post a novel but i feel like i need to in order to explain my love for this machine. For starters.. the “smartwash” name is not just some marketing strategy. This machine really is smart. Recently my dog had “episodes” in my bedroom. He peed on my bed (like a full days worth of pee) and he had diarrhea in 3 spots on my floor. I noticed when cleaning the 3 spots versus the rest of my carpet more detergent dispensed. You can tell because while the brush is scrubbing you see the suds. That to me is simply amazing. The machine knew how much to dispense in every part of the carpet based on the mess underneath. Moving on to why this is literally the best machine. I got a new kitten 6 months ago and ever since she’s been using a particular spot in my living room as her personal litter box. My house smelled TERRIBLE. So terrible that out of pure desperation i ended up ripping up my carpet, removed the padding, scrubbed the hardwood floor and replaced the original carpet. The smell never totally went away and here is what i tried: vinegar/soap/baking soda solution (about 50 times), Nature’s miracle (twice), Bissell Carpet solution and their rental machine, borrowed a family members carpet cleaner AND had my rugs PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED WITH AN ENZYMATIC CLEANSER. No change. I decided to order the smartwash based off reviews and honestly i thought it was the best looking machine on the market. First thing i did was tackle that spot where my kitten kept urinating. It had a mixture of urine, cleaner, detergent and musty smell after trying so many things. I pre treated with pine sol as recommended by a friend then used the smartwash. Gone. All of the smells and dirt and everything is just gone. The water in the dirty container was almost black it made me sick to my stomach. The next day i went back over the same spot just to remove excess dirt and while there was some, it was clear that the machine did its job the first time around. I was seriously shocked. Everything i went through prior especially professional cleaning should have done what this one machine did. Aside from that it is so simple to use both the machine itself AND the hose attachment. It’s simple push for wet and pull for dry and the carpet is hardly damp once you are done. There is no wet smell no nothing just clean brand new looking carpet. Even taking the front apart to clean was extremely simple. Don’t hesitate like i did and compare prices like i did for weeks. This is the real deal i promise!!!!

I had very low expectations as none of the carpet cleaners i had before were any good. This one is perfect - easy to use, cleans well. I took a photo of two identical runners, one has already been cleaned and the other one hasn't. You can probably see which one is which. And the other photo shows how much dirt came out of the cleaned runner.
I am very satisfied with this carpet cleaner, it is totally worth the money

Really, I think my review should be a 3 star + or a low 4 star. I just received this machine & have used it on a couple of 8 x 10 sized area rugs & a few other smaller area rugs in my home. The machine is simple to use. I've had some issues though. First, it runs through shampoo very very quickly. We're now on our 3rd LARGE bottle of the pet shampoo. Second, the pieces do fit together well but the "removable nozzle" piece on the head of the machine has a pull that can be easily disengaged. At first, my son thought the part was broken. It took a couple of Youtube videos for me to figure out how to put it back together. Also, there are certain things you must do when using this machine. MAKE CERTAIN that the clasp on the back of the "dirty water tank" is engaged before putting that piece back on the machine. On one occasion, that clasp wasn't fully connected & when I removed the tank to empty it, all the dirty water poured back onto the rug!!! A mess!! You can't see that clasp when you pull out the tank - so check it before returning the tank onto the machine. It was also a little difficult to maneuver the machine from the floor onto a medium pile area rug carpet. We had to lift the machine onto the rug. Finally, you really must use the "dry only" mode a few times after washing the rug. That's the only way your rug will dry quickly. You'll be surprised how much dirty water is left in the rug - even after you've gone over it more than 1 time. It does clean the carpets. I can't compare it to other brands because this is my first rug cleaner. I bought it based upon the great reviews.

This machine did a great job. The only assembly was putting the handle in. Read the manual as it has tips on usage. Pay attention to how the parts fit. There are tabs that fit in slots on the dirty water lid and the brush head cover. There were complaints that it leaked dirty water but that is because they didn't seat the container properly. It will click into place. No parts needed to be forced on as everything fit nicely. I had no leakage other than what dripped off the brushes.
1. Use warm water in the clean water tank.
2. Use the concentrated detergent in the detergent bottle. No diluting necessary which is time saving. I managed to clean 3 12’x12’, 1 20’x10’, 1 20’x15’, and 1 10’x10’, and a hallway with the sample bottle and 5 oz. of detergent from the gallon I bought.
3. When you are cleaning/rinsing, the machine dispenses soap/water when you push forward. Go slowly but not so slow that you oversaturate the area. It has indicators at the brush head that say “wash” when you go forward. If the area is not a heavy traffic area or soiled then 1-2 “wash” pass(es) was good enough.
4. When you are extracting, the indicator will say “dry”. This happens when you pull back over the area. I found that pulling back slower than when you dispensed cleaner/water worked great to get good extraction.
5. To rinse, remove the detergent container. This is why I didn’t run out of detergent. Now you only dispense warm water to rinse the carpet. Same operation of slower on the pull to extract than the push to dispense. Do this until the water you see coming in at the brush head looks less soapy. Again, don’t oversaturate the carpet. Probably only need a couple passes.
6. Once rinsed, press the “dry only” button near the handle. Love this feature. I spent more time with this than washing/rinsing. Again, slower on the pull. Work the section until you don’t see water coming in at the brush head. My carpets were dry after about 1 hour if you spend time getting it out. I also put a box fan to circulate air to the room when I was done with it. When you are ready to go to the next section, press the “dry only” button again to disengage it and re-insert the detergent bottle. It will reset when you turn the machine off too, but I usually kept it on and kept moving unless I needed to empty the dirty water or refill the clean.
7. When you empty the dirty container, rinse the whole thing out including the non-removable red screen and lid. Make sure you put the two tabs at the back of the lid into the slots first then close the lid and latch it (see pics). When you put the container back onto the machine, put the bottom in at an angle in the front then push into position (see pic). You did it right when you hear a click. Doesn’t need forcing at all. I had no leaks if it was seated properly and clicked. Also, periodically rinse out the brush head cover. It comes off easily and gets full of hair and lint. The suction will work better if you keep it clean. When you put it back on, align the two tabs near the latch with the slots. (see pics) Drop it in first then push to click. No need to force.
8. My unit came with the hose and an attachment for stairs. The attachment has two brushes included. I used the rubber one to help pull up dog hair. The hose reached 7 treads. The head has a trigger to spray soap/water. Same operation-spray detergent onto carpet (I was able to do 3 treads at a time with my reach). Drawback is trudging back down the stairs to remove the detergent container to rinse. Spray water while suctioning a few times then just suction. It did a very good job. Had to move the machine to the landing to finish but not a big deal. If a problem for you or you have more treads than it can reach, then a handheld small cleaner may be better.
9. Clean up was very easy. Rinsing out the containers, removing the brush head cover and brushes was a snap. Let it all dry before storing and it will be ready.
10. Lastly, a back-saver tip. Keep the area's you're cleaning to about 3 feet of reach in front and as wide as you want by moving left or right. Don’t overextend forward. Pull while standing up straight not bending your back. This is a slow process. It’s nice that I now have a machine and can keep up with it more regularly than the “once a year “ rental.

Description

Wow! That's the best word I can use to describe this fantastic carpet cleaner! It is such a smartly designed machine that is incredibly easy to use, super easy to clean in just mere minutes and it cleans the carpets better than any other machine I have used! In fact, it is so easy to use and clean up afterwards that I no longer dread the thought of bringing the carpet cleaner out for small clean ups or whole carpet cleaning. The 8 ft extension hose with the hand held cleaning tool is perfect for stubborn spots and small cleaning jobs. I can't say enough about the smart features on this machine. Having the option to quickly remove the solution tank to have just have clean water to rinse is awesome! No more measuring how much solution to add to the clean water tank and potentially wasting your solution if you don't use the entire tank! The dry-only button is phenomenal! It allows me to quickly dry the carpet after cleaning. The machine is lightweight and very easy to maneuver. The clean water and dirty water tanks remove very easily for emptying and cleaning. The removable brushes are fantastic which makes it so much easier to clean than the none removable brushes. What's great about the brushes on this machine is that there are longer bristles on the rollers than most other machines and the longer brushes actually push animal fur or hair up to the top of the clear top cover over the brushes so that the hair or fur simply wipes off of the lid cover (no more pulling hair or fur out of the bristles)!! This is the 3rd Hoover I have had in 30 years and they have all been wonderfully reliable machines. Hoover has truly out done themselves with this state of the art carpet cleaning machine! Thanks a million Hoover for making my carpet cleaning a breeze!

Old dog turned tan Berber carpet black! This worked like an infomercial. Light and so easy to use - WAY better than bulky rentals. Best money spent can’t wait to do the rest of the house

I could not wait to get a chance to review this HOOVER after swearing to never use another one and running through our 4th carpet cleaner in less than a year. All bissel cleaners. The bad reviews on the cleaner are hilarious. First off can I please say you are really not supposed to clean area rugs with a heavy duty carpet cleaner, and if you have never owned a carpet cleaner and don't have a thing to compare it to, why write the review in the first place. If you don't hook on the dirty water because you have never owned a cleaner and nasty water gets all over the floor DUH! HOW is that hoovers fault ! Hahaha anyway, that being said I have 3 toddlers all under 3 and potty training. It's a nightmare. Pee and poop everywhere. We run that carpet cleaner more than we change clothes. Yes. And let me tell you.... compared to the big heavy green machine by bissell, the preheat bissell, the nickel for pet messes ect....this one is by far the greatest machine made yet. Hands down. If you write a bad review because you had a bad experience give it another shot you won't find better. I PROMISE this one is the way to go. Everything snaps on and off my 2 year old can run this machine. Oh not to forget the amount of water it holds so less trips to fill and empty as well as the extended front that helps to reach those areas underneath the bed because its so long !

This carpet cleaner is easy to use. The carpets came out clean and smelling fresh. My mother is incontinent so she sometimes is peeing on the carpet.

Just got this carpet cleaner last Saturday, and it is very impressive. My family has 4 cats, 1 dog and two kids 5 and under. Our carpets were a mess and this cleaner made them look as close to new as they are going to get. I really enjoy that you don't have to fuss with a trigger to go from wash to dry and love even more that I don't have to hassle with measuring out the detergent. The carpets were a little wet, so I turned on the dry only function and they were completely dry by the morning. As for the look of the carpet, it was wonderful and the machine also fluffed up the fibers too, so they felt wonderful under my toes. Very pleased with my purchase. Thanks Hoover!
