I have COPD, am on supplemental O2 and need to keep an eye on my sats. I've kept at least two of these around for a while now and when one recently (finally) died I replaced it with this latest and greatest version. It locks on to your vitals and starts displaying results so quickly you'll think it's a pricey institutional version. I occasionally buy one of these as a replacement or as an extra convenience, and every time they're better than the time before. If you've got an older version and are tired of waiting for it to respond, considering buying a newer version.

Word to the wise: I've seen medical equipment suppliers offer equivalent (rebranded) versions of these items for well over $200. Yes, really. Maybe they're screwing their customers directly or screwing intermediaries (insurance companies or taxpayers via Medicare). Don't be suckered!

Where to start?
First, the owner's manual is very comprehensive, including a detailed explanation of how a pulse oximeter works, features of the CMS 500DL, causes of inaccurate readings and more. Unusually for a small inexpensive electronic device it is written in fluent English with correct grammar and punctuation!

I compared the readings of the CMS 500DL with my Nonin Onyx Vantage which cost about $150 from a medical supply house and the measurements were identical. I have checked the Nonin with those at my local hospital and medical clinic; it is completely accurate.

Items included in the 32 page owner's manual include sections about the various features of the product, cleaning and disinfecting, maintenance and troubleshooting and technical issues and specifications.

This always seem to read lower O2 values than what my Dr. readings. Not sure if there is a way to calibrate the numbers.

Update:
If you thought customer service was a thing of the past then you have not purchased a product from Med Shop & Beyond. Based on my review I received and email from Nikki at Med Shop & Beyond with suggestions on how to use the meter to obtain the correct readings. After trying the suggestions I was still having a problem and I responded to Nikki and the next thing happen is what surprised me. Nikki sent me another email with her phone number asking me to call her so we could discuss my concerns. After talking with Nikki she understood my concerns and offered to send me a new device after she personally tested it.

I received a shipment confirmation email and a few days later I received the new device. I followed the instructions and it is providing the expected readings.

I will continue to do business with Med Shop & Beyond based on their customer service

I recently purchased this AccU-rate CMS 500 DL Finger Pulse Oximeter. We are very active in the gym and our physician was interested in my husband's heart rate and oxygen saturation when lifting heavy. We bought this model because it is the same as our doctor uses in his office.

We also chose this particular model because the device was designed so the user can view the display, versus being like most pulse oximeters that are designed for another person to have the advantage of being able to read the display.

Now that we own the device, we found that we like the numbers on the display being large enough to easily read without glasses in the gym. Also the numbers on the display are clear versus appearing pixelated like some lesser quality digital displays.

We like so many other design features. The lanyard has a clip so the device can release from the lanyard without having to take it off over the head. Also, the medical grade silicone padding where the finger rests makes the device comfy. Other products feel uncomfortable as they clamp hard plastic onto the sensitive part of the fingernail.

We're not certain we'll use the really nice soft plastic (possibly silicone?) cover. If it stays on and doesn't come off then it can be nice to protect the device from sweat, thereby allowing us to wear it during exercise. It's good that the display is visible while using the cover.

We both appreciate good packaging. It's all the packaging details that give the first impression it's a quality product. The device rests in a box designed just for the device. There is a nice thin piece of foam just to protect the top of the device should the box become crushed. There was protective film to protect the display and it removed easily. It's really nice that the batteries are already installed and activated with a quick removal of a plastic pull strip. Hubby really liked that the user manual was well written and chock full of technical information. I liked that it also had quick and easy to understand instructions.

All in all, the AccU-rate pulse oximeter looks like it will last a long time and be a pleasure to use.

I got this for my mom who is a heart patient in a lung patient who does not get enough oxygen. This checks not only her oxygen levels it also checks for heart rate and let you know her heartbeat what speed buy a little up and down light up thing. This is been a great help to her for monitoring how low and how high the oxygen levels are with all her activities. great buy for that. It comes with a lanyard so she can wear it around your neck and take it wherever she goes and a little plastic silicone case. She is well pleased with it and it is simple for a 70 year old lady to understand.

The Acc U Rate® Pro Series CMS 500DL is awesome. For about half the price of a comparable item found at CVS, Walgreens or Wal Mart this well made oximeter is just what we needed. It arrived well packaged with batteries inserted and worked like it should right out of the box. My wife has several health issues and her nurse, who comes to see her at home three times a week, suggested they we buy one to monitor her oxygen levels. This does that and much much more. To my surprise it also has a nice thick, soft plastic cover that protects the devise from liquids and dropping on the floor - easily removed if desired. In our case since my wife has very little feeling in her fingertips she does drop a lot of things so this was a huge plus.

It uses two AAA batteries and as I said it came supplied with two already inserted. Simply remove the little plastic strip and contact is made and it is ready to use. Though it is well made she is able to easily squeeze it open to get over her fingers for a reading. It also measures pulse rate as well as SpO. The reading is completed in seconds and is accurate.

Unfortunately I needed this for my little guy who is doing great now but needed to measure oxygen at home. As you can see it’s pretty much spot on with the hospital equipment.

-Full (ENGLISH) instructions.
-Batteries included/installed, works immediately!
-Very well packaged.
-Easy to read and shuts off automatically when done!
-Accurate when compared to MD's results.
-Great value (Quality:Price).
I highly recommend this medical device...

So I read a lot of reviews before selecting this one and picked this one based on believing more actual users of this product were reviewing rather than other products looked like they had fake or paid for reviews. The described accuracy in the manual for this unit is +-2. I have only used it for a day but my father is in the hospital so I have a machine that is thousands upon thousands of dollars to compare it to (second image). Most every time, this unit is 2% below what the hospital machine says (first image compared to second image - within the +-2% threshold indicated by the product). A few times, it was under reporting by 3% but not too often. A few tips: 1. Make sure the light isn't too bright where the reading is taking place. 2. Hold still 3. Breathe steady 4. Nail polish can impede the reading 5. If the reading seems off, re-position on the finger and try again. The directions say to put it on, then turn on the unit so I have been taking the reading this way. Overall, I am very happy for day 1. I can read the screen perfectly fine, reading is fairly accurate and all for under $20. Highly recommend. Will update review if I start to see the accuracy dwindle or battery life, LCD screen start to fail etc. Until then, A++

Ordered item and it arrived next day. Packaging was excellent and unpacking the unit was easy. The included manual is comprehensive and well written. It is always painful to decipher other languages. What a relief that is. The unit is well constructed and the AAA battery was included. You only have to pull the piece of plastic out and it is ready to go. The screen is easy to read and shows an active pulse then it shows the O2Level. I compared this to my professional grade machine and it is spot on. The disclaimer that this is for sports and aviation use and is not a medical device. Ok I get it the FDA has a hand in that disclaimer because as I said, it is spot on. If you buy this for other than sports or aviation use take it to your doctors office get hooked up to the machine there then pop this one on.
