OXO Good Grips POP Container – Airtight Food Storage – 0.3 Qt for Spices & Herbs and More

My wife recently asked why most of my purchases I review have 5 stars. Well, the answer is simple. 5 stars means I have done the research and read dozens of reviews, both positive and negative, and have come to the conclusion that I will purchase that product again without hesitation. That goes for the OXO container.

4 stars mean that I really like a product, but there's a chance I might purchase from another manufacturer. What really sold me on this container is how fresh it has kept my Keurig coffee cups. Now, you might be wondering why K cups would go bad. The answer is, I use San Francisco Bay K Cups. Instead of the normal plastic container most K Cups come in, SF Bay Cups have a biodegradable paper liner.

This means the coffee will dry out and lose all that freshness if not kept sealed properly. After a week of use and s two week vacation, I've returned home to the same fresh coffee I left. That is because the OXO sucks out a good bit of air when closing and prevents external air from permeating the container. This makes for a three week old K cup as fresh as the day I opened the packaging.

This will hold two bags worth of K Cups, or about 10 Cups with plenty of room to spare. Sealing and opening the container is ridiculously easy and I would venture to say much easier than other products I've tried. This means it's good for guys like me, ladies, young kids, and possibly even older adults with arthritis.

I'll post some negative comments on this product when I find one. Until then, this container is efficient, easy to use, has a pleasant appearance that's not an eye sore in the kitchen, and works remarkably well. My next venture will be with varying sizes, other dried goods and eventually I'll see how it does with fruits and vegetables.

I have been storing my flour in several layers of plastic shopping bags for years. That kept it nice and fresh, but it was always a pain in the butt every time I had to bring it out. Literally having to untie three layers of shopping bags. So, I searched Amazon for a “5 pound flour container” And came across this OXO 4 quart big lid container.

I am very pleased with the quality of the lid. It unscrews into two pieces so you can wash it well.

And the container is a perfect size for 5 pounds of flour.

Now that I have them all, I want to tell you guys what each is good for and how to get them all the same height (the 5.5 Quart height as shown in all the advertisements). I ended up buying around 20 total, and may get two more (one for lentils, one for beans). Cooking is my favorite pastime. So if I can get away with 20 total, unless you like to bake/cook with exotic things, you probably won't need more. Consider that you will pay anywhere from $200 to $300 total for all your Oxo containers over time if you want to make your kitchen uniform. Make sure you want the white ones (which I love) because there are red and silver options now for these pop containers, but they're pricier.

Look at the Oxo sets (esp the 5- or 12-piece ones) to save money; 10-piece set is not that functional. There are many sizes you can do without. You can collect your 20% off coupons from Bed Bath for these to save some $ as well. Another way to save money is to utilize Mason containers for things of smaller volume. I can get a pallet (12) of mason containers for just $12, whereas one 0.9 Quart here will cost me the same. I use the Mason containers for the small things like cocoa powder, maca powder, chia seeds, baking powder, peanuts, pistachios, wheat germ, chinese noodles, chocolate chips, etc. Really cost effective and still gives a clean appearance (just doesn't stack well).

You could get by with just a bunch of the first two oxo sizes listed, plus one 2.1 for your pasta/cereal and one 5.5 for your taco chips. Unless you are feeding a family of five+ (which these containers may not be the best idea for because they could crack if handled by kids and they need to be handwashed), there's no reason to store your rice/flour/sugar in 4.4 or 5.5. It's too heavy to be functional.

I don't recommend getting too many that require eveners because the smaller containers cost about the same as the bigger ones. I like the uniform look, so I like these to be the same size on my shelf. I use the pop containers and what's in them as a good portion of my kitchen decor. Lends an earthy, but modern feel. Really make me happy every time I walk into my kitchen.

LISTED FROM MOST FUNCTIONAL DOWN:

1 1/2 Quart - (skinny) most functional size! This will fit two brown sugar packets, one small bread flour bag, one small wheat flour bag, one small cornmeal bag, beans, pasta. For the things you consume a lot, consider upgrading to the 2 2/5 size. (Stack two of these to make the 5.5 height)

2 2/5 Quart - (big base) second most useful size. Use this for your big hitters or bigger volume takers like rice, ritz crackers, white sugar, cookies, quinoa, all purpose (stack two to get the height of one 5.5) Fits three of the bigger size Publix brown rice bags in one container.

5.5 Quart (tall, big base) - really I'd only store chips/cereal in the two biggest sizes; really heavy if you store flour, sugar, or rice in this size.

0.9 Quart - (skinny) (stack two on top of each other to equal the 5.5 height) great for tea bags, chocolate chips, chocolate squares, cornstarch, oatmeal, powdered sugar (anything that won't fit in your mason jars)

2.1 Quart - (tall, skinny) (same height as 5.5) great for cereal and pasta

3.4 Quart - (skinny) perfect for chips you may not consume enough to justify a 4.4 or 5.5. Good for cereals, tall enough for pasta noodles (though, I wouldn't buy that many noodles). Same height as 5.5.

MUST BUY EVENERS IF WANT A UNIFORM LOOK, WHICH EQUALS MORE $$$:

4.4 Quart (tall, big base) - chips, cereal (stack a 0.8 on top to make it the height of 5.5)

0.8 Quart (evener for 4.4) - perfect for chocolate truffles, curry packets, taco packets, bread crumbs (would not buy this size unless you have a 4.4 to stack it on top of)

2.5 Quart - (skinny) I would not recommend this size. Just go ahead and buy the 2 2/5 size because you can stack two of those sizes to equal one 5.5. If you buy this size, you'll have to buy the 0.5 to make it the same size as rest, which the 0.5 only fits sugar cubes and maybe cough drops.

0.5 Quart - (evener for 2.5) this is not a functional size unless you get the 2.5 Quart (tall, skinny)

1.5 Quart (tall, skinny) - would not recommend this size because then you'd have to buy the 1/3 size (which is not good for a whole lot) to make everything stack neatly. This 1.5 Quart would be good for licorice?, beans, and granola.

1/3 Quart - (evener for 1.5) not a super functional size; mainly for chili peppers and maybe yeast packets or something (stack two to make the size of one 0.9)

These containers are wonderful! I use mostly the the 4 quart ones for storing all my flours...All purpose unbleached, whole wheat, bread flour, coconut flour. They hold 5 pounds just perfect and keep the flour FRESH for months!! I also store my sugar. The top is wide enough to easily get your measuring cup in to measure. They keep my cupboards so organized. I use them when I make clothespin cookie shells. They can be stored for weeks in these and are just as crisp and fresh the as the day I baked them. I am working on getting more of different sizes...have some on my wish list for gifts. I do have some smaller ones that i put crackers in. Always crisp! Same with cookies! I highly recommend these! I see on Holiday Baking Shows this year (2015) on the cooking channel use them on their shelves to store flour and other baking items. Hand wash easily.

Traditionally bread boxes emphasize air flow so the bread doesn't get moldy, just dried out, stale, and eaten by insects.

We have an ant problem. Lost 3/4 of a large bag of white cheddar popcorn to them, a box of Pop-Tarts where they got inside and chewed through the wrappers, then more popcorn when they found their way through the threads of the screw-top container we put it in -- it was getting crazy. I had one OXO box and that kept them out, while being easy to open and close. We got this one because it was long enough to take a loaf of sandwich bread (we keep the boxes on their sides on a shelf). Works great. Haven't been losing food to the insects since we invested in some containers like these.

OXO Good Grips containers are my favorite. They are a little more expensive but definitely worth the price. I have these containers in many different sizes. My main reason for getting the containers is that we have a lot of bugs in Hawaii. I was having an especially difficult time with roaches and ants. I also have problems with what I call the "pasta bugs" that love to get in containers and breed in there. These containers have never let any bugs in them and I've been using them for about 2 years now.

In addition I was having a ant problem at school (I'm a teacher) and we would get these really tiny ants that could somehow get into Ziploc bags. These containers never let those in either. The ants could even get into my mini fridge at work!

I also like the shape because they fit better in my cabinets than the round containers and use the space more wisely. Amazing containers!

I bought this to use for DIY Disinfectant wipes using a large roll of Bounty Select a Size Towels and a few other household ingredients. It works great. I keep it under the sink and it is easy to open and close. The DIY WIPES work great, by the way. Sure beats the 'name brand' wipes. No chemicals you cannot pronounce and a nice fragrance (essential oils) and you cannot beat the cost. Just wish the container itself did not cost so much. :0( But, it will pay for itself in no time.

These storage containers are fantastic! They work well, fit well in the cabinets, and they look great! I got the 2.5 and 4 qt ones. They are both pretty tall, about 10 inches or so with the lid on, so make sure your shelves are tall enough to hold them. The original shelf I was intending to use to store them on, was too short. But I like the tall ones since they all are the same height.

The seal works well too. The button on top is up if you want to open the lid or just cover the stuff inside, but not seal it. You push down the button to seal it and it works well. i use them for nuts, rice, oatmeal, and protein powder right now. Works great! and it makes my cupboards look so much better. I would highly recommend them.

Just make sure you buy the right size. That is the hardest part, knowing what size container to buy. Dont get huge ones, but I would error on the side of getting larger ones than you think you'll need. Better have too much room than not enough.

I wanted to organize my baking cupboard. I had been using some cheap Rubbermaid containers I received has high school graduation presents (SO many years ago - I refuse to say how many, but I'd need more than my fingers to count). I didn't want to waste counter space with the "decorative" containers. I also didn't want to waste cupboard space by using round containers. Yet another demand was that the containers would close super tight so bugs couldn't get in.

These checked all those boxes and so many more! The lids seal wonderfully, the clear plastic is actually clear (not cloudy like the Rubbermaid ones I had or other brands I've tried), and they are holding up very well under my constant use (opening, using, cleaning, refilling). They look nice, clean up supremely easily, and are true to the dimensions described.

The containers were SO well packed. Perhaps to well - I would think only one layer of bubble wrap when they're in a box inside another box would be sufficient, but there were like 3 layers. And, instead of using a smaller box, ONE would be inside a huge Amazon box. Then again, not one was cracked or warped, so no real complaints. Just seemed excessive.

Makes my cupboard look super organized and clean.

They stack very well, too.

WORTH THE PRICE!

My canisters arrived today. I was so excited to finally get my flour and sugar into containers and out of my cabinets. They arrived on time, and I think they will make baking easier. However, they definitely do NOT hold a 5lb bag of flour or sugar. That was disappointing. I poured the bags into the canisters, and I have a lot of flour and sugar left in the bags.
