Yes, this device has a cord but I'm not spending $400 on a cordless stick vac that may or may not have as much power as this one or a run time of 15 mins per 4 hour charge - gimme a break. I've had this now for a couple months and LOVE it. We bought it primarily b/c we got a puppy and while her hair isn't that bad yet we always track in grass/debris from taking her outside so often, so it is primarily used on our hardwood floors and our carpeted living room area. This product is exactly what I needed and I'm very happy with the purchase. It's versatile, powerful and easy to put away. Does a really nice job on our carpeted areas as well. I will recommend this to anyone who asks - great purchase.
Original review: 11.14.14
Normally, I wouldn't write a review when there are 554 others, but this vacuum cleaner has changed my life! It's hard to believe how much dirt it gets up-*every* time I vacuum...which means it's hard to believe how much dirt I was living in before, in the world of the Hoover upright. I'm still experimenting with all the attachment doodads--it's way more vacuum than I've ever had before.
But even though I love it, there are a few things that are less than ideal, for me at least:
*The cord is way too long. I get tangled up in it. It would be easier for me to unplug a shorter one and put it in another outlet in another room.
*The little devil is so powerful that it pulls me across the room.
*The dirt cup is hard to get off. I have to use a knife handle to push the release button while I open the cup with the other hand.
*I do wish it stood up by itself.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to persuade all my friends, clean-freaks and otherwise, to get one.
1.6.15 Update.
Here's the caveat, which maybe everyone else would know to look for, but I didn't. The vacuum cleaner fell over tonight and as I bent to pick it up, I noticed that the bottom was turquoise blue…just the color of my rug. When I looked closer, the entire beater bar was wound tightly with cat fur and blue strands from the rug. It took me 25 minutes to cut, pry, and pull all of it off--see the photo for how much there was. So now I know to clean off the bottom of the vacuum in addition to emptying the cup every time and washing the filter once a month.
3.26.17 Update.
My little Shark Rocket is still going strong.
*The dirt cup is no longer hard to get off--the latch is not as tight as it was when it was new.
*Now that I know to check the beater bar whenever I put it away, anything that gets caught is easily removed. The suction is still strong though--it once ate a sock.
*As it ages, the locking mechanism that keeps it upright doesn't work as well. It needs to be firmly propped up against a wall so it doesn't come crashing to the floor.
It still pulls in the most amazing amount of dirt, dust, and cat fur, even if I vacuumed the day before.
(As of today I'm going to give this 5 stars. As I use it more and come across any issues I will definitely update this!)
I am "upgrading" my old vacuum to this Shark vacuum. I have had a Hoover Nano cyclonic for 6 years next month. I purchased it when I moved into my old apartment in April 2011. I had all carpet there. Here in my new apartment, I have all hardwood except an area rug in living room and bedroom is carpet. I also have two dogs and two cats that leave hair and cat litter everywhere. Slowly I was losing the constant sweeping battle. Most vacuums I have run across have had such hit or miss reviews so I was hesitant. I finally decided to give this one a try.
Pros:
-seems to have great suction and cleaning power. Mildly embarrassed at how much came out of my carpets and I just vacuumed a couple days ago with the old one.
- I love the long cord. I can do the whole apartment except half the bedroom without unplugging it. Makes it go so much faster.
- easy to put together. No screwing required.
-lots of various cleaning attachments. Although I will admit I probably won't use them.
-quiet!! (As compared to previous vacuum). One of the cats didn't even move until I almost ran him over.
-very easy swivel maneuver. I can go up and down and almost completely horizontal without ever moving.
-small head and ability to lay flat means less furniture to nove.
CONS:
-small dirt container means quicker emptying.
-the weight is in the handle so your arm does get quite the workout. I can not see someone like my mom who is 66 being able to use and maneuver this vacuum.
-it blows pretty warm almost hot air right where your arm is. It's not bad just kinda a small annoyance.
So overall, I am really happy and impressed with this thing so far.
This vacuum works great, navigates well, and gets under fairly low furniture quite easily. I've used so far on wood stairs, wood floor, linoleum using the "Dust-Away hard floor attachment" and low pile rug using the main roller brush base, and it's been great on all accounts, as others have stated using the main roller base on carpet the roller is quite strong and will literally drag you across the floor haha.
The unit is lightweight, and seems to have quite a bit of flexibility. As I have a nearly 100 year old home, the long cord is AWESOME. We don't have a ton of electrical outlets, and most are hiding behind furniture. It's nice to plug in only central location and be able to get the entire main floor.
Minor disappointments:
it would be nice if there was a normal hose attachment. it does include a very short reduced airflow hose for the car detail kit, but the main motor of the unit, though lightweight, is fairly large and it is difficult to get the end of the attachments into some nooks & crannies. I will probably try to purchase that accessory on it's own.
Also wish it had a small roller brush for furniture (again will probably try to purchase separately)
It is very top heavy so you have to be very careful where and how you lean this sucker as it will fall over. I do wish it was able to stand upright on it's own but realize that would probably make it more cumbersome therefore reducing agility & adding weight.
Major disappointment, As my SUV is absolutely filthy, I took advantage of the included car detail kit and was highly underwhelmed. It LOOKS cool, lots of neat little doodads and a reduced diameter hose so you imagine it's going to get some pinpoint suction with some real velocity for nooks & crannies. It doesn't. I found it was useful in a few SUPER small tight areas but mostly I just used the larger flat angle attachment.Had there been a full size hose attachment I probably would not even have needed it at all.
All in all, I am quite happy with the vacuum and am hoping it will stand up to the test of time in my multi dog, multi cat, multi little boy house. will try to update with any ground breaking developments!
This little vac is awesome. I’ve got four kids in a small house, and every square inch seems to get destroyed on a daily basis. I just had the house cleaned professionally last week and I still had a FULL dustbin of gunk after vacuuming my front rooms (living room, dining, kitchen, and hallway for ten minutes) I haven’t used all the pieces that this vac came with yet, but I’ve used the vac brush to roll easily over my laminate floors and the living room carpet. I love how I can even vacuum my kitchen floor and really get under the edge of the cabinets and in all the corners. It’s a pretty versatile little cleaner. Super easy to attach and detach parts, easy to open the dustbin hatch and empty. I’m in love! Even easy for my kids to use as it’s pretty lightweight. When it gets onto carpet you can really feel the pull of the motorized wheels so that you don’t have to use so much force to push the vac across the floor. Only issue I’ve had is that it makes my arm tired after ten minutes because of the weight at the top near the handle. But I keep my cleaning in short ten minute bursts and it’s fine. I would reccomend. In fact I almost bought one for my sister before I found out she already had one! Worth the money.

Shark Rocket Ultra-Light Corded Bagless Vacuum for Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaning with Swivel Steering and Car Detail Set (HV302), Gray/Orange
7/2017 update: I've had this for about 2 years now. The clip that holds the dirt canister closed has broken after the vacuum fell over while leaning up on the wall - again, the vacuum would be great if it could stand alone. I used rubber bands to hold it closed and resumed normal use without issue. But now, after thoroughly cleaning the canister, washing and drying the filter, removing hair from the brush- I can't figure out why after a few minutes of use on my hardwood and low pile area rugs, the dirt seems to be spitting back out from the head of the vacuum. I switched to the hose for the stairs and feel the suction but it just isn't working the way it used to. It was a great vacuum while it lasted.
12/2015: This is my every day vacuum to clean up after the kids, meals, the usual messes. We do have a big canister vacuum for deeper cleaning. I had a cordless vacuum but this Shark is so much stronger. The cord is plenty long, so I can maneuver quite a distance without having to move the plug. It's quite powerful on our area rugs and hard floors (wood, vinyl and tile.) The cup has to be emptied quite often if we wait too long between our cleanings, but it's very easy. I love using the nozzle on stairs and behind furniture. It would be perfect if it was able to stand upright on its own.
If you're wondering how bad your current vacuum is, then buy this one. I knew our previous vacuum was "getting old" and needed replacing, but I didn't realize just how bad it actually was. In just our bedroom alone, the canister on this vacuum was filling up with dust and dirt, like full to the brim, even after multiple times. The first time, I had to empty it halfway through the one room. This lasted for about 4-5 weeks with a religious weekly vacuum schedule. We do not have kids. We do not have pets. We had been living in the house about 3 years when I bought this vacuum. The carpet was brand new when we moved in. It still took that long to get all the crud out. It still horrifies me that that junk was in our BEDROOM for that long.
I read some reviews saying that the cord is too long. My response to that: that's not a real problem. I prefer to be able to go the distance in my house, and this cord allows me to do that. Who wants to be required to unplug every 4 feet? Not me, that's who.
I went with this vacuum over the Dyson for a couple of reasons. The main reason of course was the price. $150 versus $400-800 is a no-brainer. I can't part with a mortgage payment for a vacuum, sorry Dyson. The other reason was that although the Dyson is cordless, the battery life is less than 1 hour. Which is fine for daily stuff, but I'm one of those who will sometimes spend an entire day ripping my house apart to clean everything and I need the sucker to be on it's A-game to keep up. This one has a cord, and I've not had any problem with this sucker keeping up.
I believe I bought this thing back in March. I still love it, and since that time, my mom has also bought one. She recently had back surgery and even she finds that the design of this is not too heavy for her to manage.
One word of caution though: it is top heavy (the motor is by your hand), so it does not stand up on its own. But there is rubber on the bottom, you can easily prop it up against a wall to avoid bending to pick it up and it comes with a bracket if you want to mount it on a wall for storage.
Another point that may apply for some is that the canister is smaller than most other vacuums. It's fine for us, but if you have pets this may be a concern. You'll need to regularly vacuum in order to avoid emptying the thing every 5 seconds because this vacuum WILL pick up everything and fill up quickly doing it. Happy cleaning!
After 1 year to the date the hose on my vacuum split. Buyer Beware! Replacement part is no longer available. Changed this rating to 5 stars...Got a call from Shark, they are replacing this nozzle free of charge! Excellent customer service for sure!
This vacuum has been a dream! It's not cordless (which was what I originally wanted), but it works great! I had previously used a Dyson cordless vacuum and I actually like this one more! The Dyson would get hot and eventually stop working until it cooled and the battery never lasted very long. This vacuum plugs in but has a good length cord. I am able to easily clean my carpeted stairs. It all detaches into a small handheld piece I can use on the stairs. Then I can easily reattach the pole to vacuum my wood floors. It easily goes under my futon, recliners, around the dog crates, and the attachments really help get under the stove and fridge. I love that it's an easy switch to push for wood/laminate floors and carpet. I can vacuum my hard floors the switch the button for my rugs and it doesn't suck up the corners of my rugs! I love this vacuum! I also am pregnant and needed something lightweight and this is perfect! I am able to keep my house clean without heavy lifting or moving the furniture. I have two dogs, one with a long double coat that never stops shedding, this vacuum has no trouble picking it all up! The other dog has a short thin coat that only sheds with the season changes and the vacuum picks it up easily as well! Pictured is a bag of hair and dirt the vacuum picked up after one use. I was very happy, the floors didnt feel like they had left over dirt or dust and mopping the floor was easy since no small dirt particles were left behind
I'm pretty horrified (and delighted) by how much filth this vacuum picks up around our house!! Definitely strong and effective, didn't have any trouble with the pine needles in EVERY nook and cranny from the Christmas tree. When I first opened the box I was pretty put off by all the attachments, but between the bag for storing them in and their ease of use I'm actually cool with it, despite preferring things to be pretty smooth and streamlined without excessive "accessories". My only warning would be that it's not a good choice if you intend for smallish children or the elderly to use it as it's very top heavy. My only true annoyance is it not being able to stand up in its own and having to lean it against something and hope a toddler doesn't knock it over while Ondo what I've got to do. All in all, though I would say I'm happy with my purchase.
