Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

I considered giving this vacuum five stars because it really is a joy to use, but there were a few things that held me back. I addressed some positive's and negative's of each of these points below.

1. Battery:
A. (Negative battery comments) It's incredibly frustrating that Dyson isn't listening to their customers here. We've been asking for removable dual batteries for years now. At this point I'm wondering if there are some design/engineering concerns about wear on the vacuum if they run continuously for too long. Dyson needs to go removable batteries if they truly want these units to replace corded vacuum's.

B. (Positive battery comments) We were able to mostly clean our entire 1,600 square foot house on one battery charge. This all depends on what you're doing. Most people are saying the low setting is worthless, but my wife and I both disagree. On our hardwood floors using the soft roller cleaner head the low setting picks up everything we needed it to. If we got to a stubborn area we would hit it quickly on medium. In our carpeted bedrooms and on our rugs we would use the carpet head and switch between low and medium depending on the area/thickness of carpet. We vacuumed a lot of hardwood, some tile, three carpeted bedrooms, the couch, and still had some battery to spare. I put the brush tool on and went to cleaning baseboards for a while. I finished probably half of our baseboards before the battery died on me. The battery life is all dependent on the settings. YOU DO NOT NEED THE HIGH SETTING FOR EVERYTHING. In fact we barely used the high setting at all, and we were getting everything very clean. We filled up the canister multiple times so I know it was cleaning well. My advice is to use the low setting on hard surfaces, and switch to medium temporarily for a tough spot, instead of using medium as a default. This of course is dependent on how long you need the vacuum for. Medium may be needed for some carpet, but it was overkill for our lower carpeted bedrooms and for our rugs. Also, keep in mind when considering your cleaning time that you should be vacuuming much faster in general not lugging a cord around.

2. Push Button:
As you probably know it's not possible to lock the vacuum on. The button must be pushed and held to run the vacuum. I actually don't mind it like I thought I would, because I feel like it makes me conserve a lot of battery life. The button is a super light push for me, and ergonomically it doesn't bother me. However, my wife has smaller hands and she said it did bother her after a while, and caused some discomfort. I would like to see a button that you can either have unlocked or locked into position. IF THEY WOULD GIVE US DUAL BATTERIES, THEN RUN TIME WOULD BE LESS OF A CONCERN, AND THE NON-LOCKING PUSH BUTTON WOULD NO LONGER BE AS MUCH OF A NECESSITY.

3. Price:
IT'S A FREAKING VACUUM. I'm sorry, but $700 is just absolutely stupid ridiculous. I'm still slightly disappointed in myself for spending that kind of money on it, but dang it really is nice. I love the vacuum, but for this price it should have every tiny issue alleviated. If Dyson does not go dual battery I will refuse to ever buy one of their products again. I went for it this time because it just seems to perform so much better than the Shark, but if they continue to disregard their customers concerns, then I will leave based on principle. You are not Apple, so stop trying to be Apple. Listen to your customers.

I have a Rainbow Vacuum. For those of you familiar with the Rainbow, you know how powerful it is and that there are few, if any, that can pick up as much as it does. It's a beast. I also have an Australian Shepherd who, I would swear, shoots fur out of her body like a porcupine would shoot quills at a predator. I moved from a fully carpeted house to one where only the bedrooms are carpeted and the rest is laminate. The Rainbow is a very heavy vacuum and I'm 74 years old and weigh about 100 lbs. I decided that if I could find a good stick vacuum to use most of the time and not have to take out the Rainbow except for the bedrooms, my life would be much easier. My usual vacuum test is to take a new vacuum, spend a bunch of time using it in a small area and then make a single pass with the Rainbow to see if anything was left behind. 99% of the time, a LOT was left behind. After researching stick vacuums, and trying out Dyson's main competitor's newest offering and returning it immediately, I decided that it had to be a Dyson or none at all. And, after researching Dyson's offerings, I decided that their newest was the most powerful and that it might hold up to my Rainbow test. Surprisingly, it actually did. Not only did it make short work out of the laminate flooring, but on its most powerful setting, it actually left the Rainbow with nothing to pick up. I was stunned. That had never happened before. I got the Absolute model because people were not happy that Dyson had eliminated their "Fluffy" head from one of the models and the Absolute included it and the deeper cleaning bristle model with it. I also read that the Absolute was more powerful than the Animal, even for animal hair. Before I got the stick vacuum, I thought I could keep the hard floor clean with something like the Swiffer Wet Jet. You really can't. I walk around barefooted and as much as I would clean with the Swiffer, it never felt like it does after vacuuming it with the Dyson. And it's so fast. I can vacuum the house in just a few minutes. The low profile lets me get under furniture and find the places that Ginger's hair finds to collect. The house is SO much cleaner. I have allergies and I can feel the difference. I would have liked to have paid less for a vacuum (she says after paying $2500 for the Rainbow), but I really feel that the money I spent for the V10 over the V8 and for the Absolute model was money well spent.

This review is based on comparing my old Dyson V6 Animal to the Cyclone V10 Absolute. The V10, even though bigger than the V6, is lighter. Also, the attachments are MUCH easier to switch out and the the bin empties so much easier and cleaner (no more having to use a knife to scrape out the pet hair stuck up inside the bin.) As far as cleaning goes, the V10 is much better. I first used my old V6 on max power to clean an area rug, then went back over it with the V10 on low power. The V10 bin was half full of dog hair that the V6 hadn't picked up. The V10 was also far superior in getting dog hair off of my furniture using the mini motorized tool (again, on low,) and the the soft roller cleaning head even picked up cat litter without throwing it around the the roller brush does. One final note: I was happy to see that the V10's docking station uses the same screw holes as the V6 docking station, saving me time and effort in patching and painting my wall! All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase. Edit: I just vacuumed my 1200 square foot condo, the furniture, and the stairs on one charge with 2 bars left. I have hard surface floors with some throw rugs and running the V10 on low power picked up EVERYTHING. In fact, if I used even the medium power, it was too much suction for the throw rugs. (This is an unpaid for endorsement, unlike a lot of 5 star reviews you read.)

We got the V10 animal, and couldn’t be happier with it! We got it to replace our upright dyson ball: it’s been wonderful, but it’s pretty bulky and annoying to lug up and down stairs. The v10 animal is much lighter, and much more portable. It seems to do the same great job, when you factor in how much more frequently I actually use the V10!

It’s great for a quick run around the high-traffic areas, or a deeper clean of the area rugs and hard floors. We have medium- and low-pile area rugs over hardwood and tile floors (roughly 1,000sq ft per floor), and it works fine on both.

Another reviewer suggested that the only difference between the animal and the absolute is the hardwood floor attachment (the canister size and other attachments are the same), so I got the animal.

I love that it has several settings, from a quick run on the lowest setting on the motor with the roller head at the highest setting (you can raise or lower openings on the head for different suction strength - lower setting gets more suction, higher setting sucks up bigger debris); to a deep clean of a carpeted area that has ground in dirt (the motor at highest setting and roller head at lowest setting).

My one tiny gripe is that you have to hold the trigger down to keep the motor on. Not a big problem since it doesn’t run that long for any job, but after I do the whole upstairs my trigger finger does ach a bit (I’m getting old!).

I love that it’s light enough and quiet enough for my 4 year old to use it, and my 6 month old isn’t afraid of it!

Emptying the canister is a breeze: no touching dust or dirt, plus there’s a rubber seal that slides down the middle of the canister to help push more dust off the middle cylinder. The first time I tried to empty the canister, it took a little extra strength to get it open all the way, and I was a bit worried I might break it. Since then I haven’t had trouble opening it, and it stays sealed while closed.

In every way, it’s a major improvement on our 2008/9 dyson ball! And I loved our old dyson!

Have had a Dyson V10 Absolute for a month now. Waited till I used it a bit before reviewing. As stated numerous times, it isn't worth running on high unless absolutely necessary and if necessary prepare for a long wait.

Aside from that, this vacuum is perfect for everyday cleaning. I have 2 large dogs and four cats, so I am required to vacuum daily. I have a Kirby which is the most amazing vacuum I have ever owned and which has been in use for well over ten years and is as great today as the day I got it. However it weighs a ton, and is not convenient for every day use. This vacuum absolutely is. Works on every surface in my home which varies from wood floors to tile to carpet. Works on furniture and on numerous pet beds. It is much more maneuverable than my Kirby which means instead of moving furniture to vacuum it actually reaches the toughest spots.

As others have stated, what would make this vacuum perfect is replaceable batteries If it had that, my Kirby would be retired.

I love this vacuum. I will admit, I came from a standing Dyson vacuum. It was weird to get used to at first. I liked the "heavy" nature of a floor vacuum. It felt more robust in my hands which in turn made me feel like it did a better job. I also liked the "vacuum marks" you get on your carpet with floor vacuums.

Well, the V10 Absolute doesn't disappoint. While it's weird to get used to holding this tiny piece of machinery, it really does an amazing job. I vacuumed with my Dyson floor vacuum first and then with the V10, it was incredible how much dog fur it still picked up! I was pretty grossed out to be honest, to think I lived in this atmosphere for this long "thinking" it was clean is nuts!

I love all the attachments too, they are all top notch and well made. I feel like I can tackle my entire house with this bad boy. AND it's light weight! I use it on the lowest setting and it still picks up a ton (and to be clear, when I did my old vs new test, the V10 was on the lowest setting too!) I don't think I'll ever need the high or medium setting. But I did try the highest setting for a few seconds and literally felt like the vacuum was ATTACHED to the floor, that's how hard it sucked (in a good way)!

Pros: EVERYTHING. I love the mounting bracket. It looks like a piece of art. I know I might be crazy but it's beautiful!
Cons: Only 1 - the trigger is a bit uncomfortable. You have to hold it down the entire time you vacuum, which is nice because you don't need the vacuum on while resituating the vacuum to a different spot (saving battery life) but it also kind of hurts your finger as you use it. I could see a company coming in a making a little soft grip cover for the trigger area just to make it more comfortable to hold.

To go against every other review - I have no had a single issue with battery life. I have a 3200 sq foot home with wood floors downstairs and full carpet upstairs - I vacuumed the floors downstairs, the carpeted stairs and all carpeted rooms up stairs on one charge and will still left with 1 light lit on the "battery" charge.

The price was steep but doesn't bother me, because I'm getting something that will last me YEARS. my last Dyson lasted me 10 years, and that was one I bought USED and likely was used for 5 years before that. No joke!!

4 dogs, 2 cats, a house full of kids and a permanent hip/leg injury but I FINALLY have a CLEAN HOUSE!!! Floors, carpets, upholstery, window sills, etc of a 2000 sq/f house on one charge all in about 15 minutes. I was skeptical that this could replace my corded upright but it DOES. I will never look back. Best $ I've ever spent in my enitre life. Yes, with as much as I have to battle, the dust cup isn't as big as Id like BUT, I just carry a plastic grocery bag along with me and I found that after the first few times of it picking up everything my old vac had been leaving behind, my whole house takes up less than the full cup if I do it every day. I've always aspired to having one of "those" clean houses and have killed myself trying. Now I have it with very little effort and time. TO THE GUYS...This may not seem like a sexy gift upon opening but I promise it will get a lot sexier after she uses it for a few days. :-)

This is my first cordless and third Dyson vacuum. I have had my Dyson V10 cordless for 1 month. I love, love, love it. Arrived in perfect condition packed in an extra shipping box. The vacuum itself is impressively nestled in its box. Directions are mostly illustrated which for me is easier to follow than printed word. The charging station is simple to install. I fully charged it prior to first use which takes 3-4 hours. My only question from the start was if the battery had a memory which if it does, can determine when you need to recharge it. I discovered this is not an issue for me, as I run the battery all the way down when I vacuum my 1200 Sq ft home once a week. It has 3 blue light bars so after a few uses, you can pretty easily determine how much battery life you have left. It has 3 suction settings and I have not needed to use max suction at all, yet. As the battery runs down, it does not lose ay suction. The last blue light willI flash and the vacuum will simply stop running. I have found that I can vacuum in almost half the time with this cordless wonder, due to easy maneuverability. It is very light-weight. It does not have an on/off switch. You must keep the power trigger depressed which is actually a bonus for me because it is comfortable in the hand and saves battery power. It does not “stand” on its own. You do need to lean it against a wall/object to move furniture. It does have a rubberized piece on the handle to stabilize it. If I would change/add anything it would be to make the charging station a bit larger as this vacuum comes with 3 attachments + an attachment for stairs or furniture. It would be nice to store all of the attachments on the charging station. 700.00 is quite a bit to spend on any vacuum cleaner.....for me, it has been money well spent. Thank you Mr. Dyson.

Ok - I'm a young homeowner on a TIGHT budget so the thought of spending $700 on a vacuum seemed insane to me. My old vacuum was damaged when my basement flooded, so the time to get a new vacuum was nigh. I obsessively read reviews and watched non-sponsored reviews on YouTube for 2 days (If you want to know more than you thought you'd ever know about a vacuum, check out the VacuumAdvisor YouTube channel) before making the decision to take the plunge and purchase the Dyson V10 Asolute, I figured go big or go home. I came home from work, dashed to the front porch to grab the package and un-boxed this bad boy. I (impatiently) LET THE BATTERY FULL CHARGE BEFORE ATTEMPTING MY FIRST USE. Now it was time to put this bad boy to the test:

WHAT I LOVED:
1.Major suction power (A lot of reviews say you get like 4 minutes on the Max mode, I got about 15. And Max mode literally seals the vacuum to the carpet) you wont really need to use max for everyday cleaning. I just wanted to see if the Dyson picked up things left behind by my old vacuum AND - The Dyson picked up things left behind by my Shark vacuum
2. Its so light and easy to maneuver making the dreaded task of vacuuming stairs a breeze
3. SO Quiet - serious power and not loud AT ALL
4. Easy to switch out power heads for cleaning different floor types
5. Cleaned up dog hair and my carpets have NEVER looked cleaner
6. The hepa filter LITERALLY makes the rooms you vacuum smell cleaner
7. No touching the mess! With my Shark, I had to sometimes put my hand in the canister to get the dust bunnies out of there. With this I released the red latch and voila - the nasty went right in my trash can. Some other reviews state that this lever is difficult, I had no such problem, and I don't have a ton a wrist strength or anything due to carpal tunnel.
8. Customer Service- Despite what some reviews state if you look at any complaints in these Amazon reviews, you will see Dyson responds and reaches out to offer help via their email which is: askdysonUS@Dyson.com. P.S. - for us millennials, Dyson is also responsive to inquiries on Instagram, but they responded there asking people to use the aforementioned email for help.
GREAT MACHINE!!

Where There's room for improvement:
Don't get me wrong, This is the BEST vacuum I've ever used ( I've used Hoover, Shark, and my mom's Miele), but there are a few elephants in the room to address:
1. The most obvious, the battery life. Yes I wish it were longer or that I could switch out the battery BUT, it vacuumed my kitchen, living room, stairs, small bathroom, and a hallway, before the battery capooted - AND I was using max half the time to see how deep the Dyson would clean
2. You have to press the trigger to power the machine. Dyson did this to prolong the battery life, and it makes sense. I have carpal tunnel and it really wasn't a big deal, but I do think that the next iteration would benefit from an on off switch. BUT let me repeat, holding this trigger down was no more stress on my hand than holding my older, much heavier vacuum.

I love how easy to use and versatile this machine is. Makes me almost want to vacuum daily. Almost like fun vs housework.
What I don’t like is that the battery dies so quickly. I tend to marathon clean and the battery barely lasts through half of my floor vacuuming. I would still need to vacuum the blinds and furniture. It would be great if you could have one battery charging while you vacuumed with the other and if the batteries were easily changeable.

The other thing I don’t like is having to hold the power button all the time to keep it running. My hand tends to cramp. It would be nice to have the option to lock the one button on. I understand why you want a finger trigger, but holding it for long periods reduces the ergonomics. Otherwise, I love this machine! Cleans great!
