This product works great if you want to have reusable bags for grocery shopping. Great way to reduce using single use plastic bags. Nice mesh, washes great, nice selection of sizes. I've used it for produce and bagels.
Your checkout person will appreciate it if you take a produce sticker off one of the fruits/veggies and put it on the label outside of the bag (see photo).
I am absolutely in love with these reusable mesh bags! I searched through all the different ones available on Amazon and finally decided on these. I liked the fact that they donate a portion of each sale, and I also love that they advertise you can throw these directly into the washing machine I clean them. Now down to what really matters. Since purchasing these 2 weeks ago, I haven't had to throw away any veggies or fruit! I have been able to keep everything fresh for days longer than usual because these bags let the food breathe!! It is also really nice that they come in a variety of sizes with multiple of each size. What the product description doesn't mention (and should) is that these can be used in the laundry to hold smaller items as well! I have a young son and he loves his wubba nub pacifier. However they have little stuffed animals at the end and get dirty easily. Now that I have these bags, I just collect all the pacifiers and throw them in a bag and wash them together!! They are great for toy storage as well when you are traveling! I love them so much I am ordering another set for myself, and intend to order a set for my mother and mother-in-law as well. Absolutely amazing product!!!
MULTI-USE:
I quickly discovered I could use these bags for produce, making loose leaf tea, fresh juice from blended fruits, aguas frescas (fruit waters), making almond milk (think cheaper nut milk bag!!!), laundry bag for delicate lace, and to use as sack to take SOFT fruit to post-yoga. (What can I say, I love peaches and figs in the summer). This is great since I always disliked fruit after its been in plastic bag, especially my figs, peaches, and other stone fruit
HOW IT WORKS:
Obviously helps the Earth by reducing plastic use. Also raises awareness when people see you with them. Double win.. This allows your produce to breathe, however not ideal for greens or herbs as they need cool moisture, thus the secret to keeping herbs fresh in the fridge using a damp cloth in an airtight environent. I still put greens in these bags, I just put my greens in the crisper drawer when I get home. Problem solved,
WHICH PRODUCE CAN FIT:
I think the obvious.. apples, oranges, and other snack size round fruit. I would estimate that I could load up my largest size bag with approximately 7-9 lbs of round fruit. (I say approximate because I fill up about 1/3 of bag with stone fruit and its comes to about 3 lbs), or a 2 person serving watermelon. (Yes, it holds its weight!!! No ripping or busted seams carrying the melons)
BIG STUFF?
Yupp, It does it. I've fit so far:
Whole celery hearts with leaves, 3 extra large romaine lettuce, approximately 15-18 bananas, 5 bunches of 8" long carrots, 3 baskets of strawberries, melons (I'd say about 10 lbs max) large yams. They're very moderately sized.
EASY TO CLEAN:
I wash these by hand using 7th generation dish soap and that's plenty. I leave them out to dry and they're great. I stained some with strawberries and figs and the stain didn't come out but I don't care. If necessary for my aesthetic pleasure, I can bleach 'em in a whites cycle.
VALUE:
To be honest, because these are so multi-use, I'd say they're worth every penny plus shipping even if you don't have prime. I bought 2 sets and discovered I can use them for so many things I should have bought 3-4 sets! I feel so much more kind to the Earth now, I feel more responsible, and feeling better about yourself makes you happy. These bags add to my happiness in life. Haha. Buy them for gifts, buy them to help lower that footprint, since, well, plastic doesn't detoriate and you care about the future. Plus, your food doesn't get that weird off plastic after taste which is so refreshing. BUY BUY BUY!!!
I got these in the hopes they would work for sprouting - A++++ for that. The photo shows sprouted Fenugreek started on Thursday, today is Saturday. Wow! I started Amaranth in a bag today, that was the real test. The seeds are so small I can't use my mason jars w/screens. The seeds go right through the screens I use on the jars. Not one seed made it's way out of the bag today when I rinsed the seeds to prepare for soaking. I couldn't be happier with them.
I haven't tried these for nut milk yet but I'm 100% confident it will work very well for that as well. They are heavy duty enough and a fine enough mesh to work perfectly.
I happened to be doing laundry when these arrived so I tossed my bra's etc into some of the bags since I needed to wash them anyhow. They stayed closed through the wash cycle.
Unfortunately, I did not read the directions that came with them until AFTER I'd already thrown all of the bags into the wash at the same time. It says not to wash more than 2-3 bags at a time or the cords will get tangles - and they sure did lol My bad. Took me quite some time to free my load of laundry from the cords. The attached pic does not do justice to the tangles mess I had ;)

I have been using these bags for a few weeks now -- they are high-quality and you really get a lot of bags in several practical sizes for the price. Nice quality mesh that can probably hold rice (but nothing ground, like flour). Feels like good quality and I hope it lasts awhile.I've included a photo of an orange inside the bag to show the mesh.
I bought these a few weeks ago and I'm over the moon about them. I try to minimize my use of one-time plastic items, and this puts a huge dent in my weekly consumption. My farmers at my weekly farmers market even give me a discount for using these bags! I bought these because of the success I've had after becoming tired of the overflowing box of "plastic bags to be reused" in our kitchen... we switched to reusable grocery bags. Why not eliminate the plastic produce bags too? Seems like I was just wrapping produce at the store, then bringing home, unwrapping, and discarding the bag.
These bags are GREAT. Not only did they eliminate the single-use plastic produce bags, but produce stays fresh and i can keep it in the bag in the fridge. The mesh is breathable, you can use the size bag that works for what you are buying, and even pointy stalks can be stuffed into them without fear of rips or tears. In the fridge, the bags can opened or closed, skipping the unpacking step or typing up the tops of the plastic bags.
So far no issues with self-checkout using the tare weight, or in grocery lines with checkout clerks. It's easy enough to see what is in the bags, although they are less transparent than plastic, you can see through them.

These are fine, except it seems silly to me not to have the colored tag be color coordinated. The small ones should have one color, medium another color, etc. Instead, it's all mixed up for no apparent reason. They are not different weights or anything. Matching tags would make it easier to grab one of the correct size.
When I purchased this set I did not figure on using it for food storage since I have purchased other products that did not work but I saw many possibilities for their use. Well, I bought a couple of bananas and figured I would give them a try out of curiosity. I like my bananas solid and fresh but usually wind up with black. I put my two bananas in the bag and in the fridge. Day three and they look almost exactly like when I put them in the bag, ate one and still nice and firm. Day 6 I took out the last banana and to my surprise it was still mostly yellow/green on the outside and nice and firm on the inside. So, I got to eat my bananas and not throw them away. I was so pleased that I bought a second set of the smaller bags for my fridge because I usually buy just one or two of fruits and veggies but now I can add a few others since I know I will get to eat them and not thrown them away.
