I did not purchase this product at amazon for a couple of reasons. One it's available at many big box retailers chiefly Bed Bath & Beyond where aone of their 20% off coupons comes in handy. However, I did not purchase this at BBB either. I bought directly from Shark(another story all together) for a couple of reasons: 1. They offer some "VIP" warranty which I'm positive is not worth the extra cost alone but also 2. Because they give you a free steam mop and 3. Because I got a couple extra attachments which I could have lived without but for $350 total I was able to get all that plus I received my products in 3 days.
The Good
Handsome looking machine with a nice color scheme.
Great Suction even more than the new Dyson flagship Cinetic. I think 270 AW but performance in real life is more than adequate.
Good brush pattern on the powerhead and made my carpets feel noticeably fluffier and cleaner.
Unmatched versatility and ease of use. This is the vacuum real selling point. It is as easy as they demonstrate on the infomercials to transform this into a lift away or canister vac. The powerhead and wand are able to reach into type spaces and can truly lie flat to get under most beds.
The mini MOTORIZED brush tool is an excellent tool that I have not seen offered by many manufacturers. Those pet turbines that are suction driven are no match for this tool. The added agitation and uncompromised suction provide awesome cleaning power for upholstery furniture as well as cat trees, small areas where a powerhead is too clunky like stairs, etc.
It is a completely sealed system and the filters work and release only HEPA clean air. (Caveat below)
Nice bright leds on powerhead and the handle.
Bottom line it does an excellent job with cleaning carpets and hard floors as well as miscellaneous things where all the attachments come in handy. It does amazing with pet hair and embedded dust and small particles in carpet. Just go at a smooth slower pace and repeat each area.
The Bad
Tad on the heavy side.
Power rush bristles seem to be slightly fraying and separating after a week of use although pretty heavy use. I'll be pisses if shark doesn't offer replacement rolls. Or at least a 3rd party. The powerhead is on the narrower side I think 10 or 11 inches which is better for tighter spaces but takes more time with open carpet.
Now this is real nitpicky. It's better when configured as an upright as the canister and motor add substantial weight to the machine thereby creating a better seal and pushing the brushroll further into the carpet. Better cleaning in my experience in this configuration. What they could have done was redistubite the weight a little bit so when in canister mode the wand and powerhead don't seem so dainty. Plus the brushroll config really bites into the carpet and self propels this thing in canister config which paradoxically doesn't do as good a job with deep cleaning.
The biggest and potentially the worst problem with this thing is the internal cyclone technology is just not good. It seperates all the larger and lighter particles but fine dust is not seperates by the cyclone and dives straight through the primary mesh filter and onto the secondary foam cylinder filter. Now this is fine dust and most of it is captured by this filter and the rest by the felt pad and post motor HEPA but the fact remains that eventually this machine will start to lose suction a lot sooner than u think. Sharks recommendation of washing the filters every 3 months are bull crap. You need to be periodically dusting the foam filter after any appreciable amount of vacuuming. Just use your hands outside and get all dirty just watch were the wind is blowing and see how much fine dust you can beat out of this thing. You will probably have to wash at sooner intervals. If u don't the vacuum will slightly lose suction and you will be prematurely wearing out your HEPA. Also it doesn't perform well with a large amount of heavy particles at one time for instance I suctioned up a bunch of spilled kitty litter and it sucked it right up but the litter ended up in the wrong part of the bin where the filter is and not in the collection area. A small issue but demonstrates the sub par cyclone criticism well. The cyclone technology in the Cinetic is so good that the fine particles never find their way to the filter that's why Dyson can claim that it's filter less. Bagged is better but who wants to pay for bags and it's cool seeing how dirty your floors were.
One last gripe. On low pile carpet mode there is slightly less suction than on hard floor mode. Why? If you wanted to reduce suctionyou use the thick pile mode.
The bottom line is it's a very good cleaning machine for a price that no other manufacture can compete with. You can pay twice as much for a Dyson and not see any measurable benifit and lose on the functionality. You can pray 3 times as much for a Miele and see marginal gains in cleaning but lose on versatility. You can pay an exorbitant amount of money for a Kirby or Rainbow, or Simplicity or Riccar and still not have the versatility that this machine has. And if you vacuum well going smooth and slow and repeating, you can clean almost as well with this Shark.
If you thought this was helpful please like or leave comments. I can answer questions as well.
I have to preface this with I've never owned a brand new vacuum before. I've had used ones, good & bad that I kept repairing, but it was time. The 1st thing I noticed was how quiet the Shark is. Sweet! The suction is way better than the best ones I've owned in the past. I love how easy it is to empty, change the configurations & attach accessories. The LED lights are great, especially on the handle with accessories! I was going to purchase a Dyson because of the extra long hose for doing the stairs. I just couldn't see paying $500 for a vacuum, & the Shark came with a powered roller brush pet attachment that works great on the carpeted stairs & furniture. I do wish the hose was longer. There could be an extender, I haven't looked. The only minor negative so far is going from bare floor or carpet to a throw or area rug. I'm used to the old style vacuum where you tilted the handle down & the head came up to go over the edge. The Shark has to be turned & tilted & maybe it will make it over, or I've just learned that turning off the powered roller will help. The 1st time I used the Shark, it caught the edge & is so powerful it unwound about 3 feet of material. I cleaned the whole house using the deep clean setting & was pretty disgusted with all the stuff it picked up. I've noticed no loss of suction even when the dirt bin is full, & after several months of using it. As long as the plastic holds up half as long as the metal vacuums I've previously owned, it's fantastic! It's so easy to use & moves so easy, I find I vacuum more often.
Edit-7/2017:
I loved the Shark until about 1½ yrs. later. The interior hose in the powered floor nozzle is tearing apart & full of holes! Shark wants me to buy a new nozzle for $120. They seem to be just ignoring their warranty! If I knew I would have to spend an additional $120 every 1 1/2 yrs., I wouldn't have bought the Shark. I would have gone for the Dyson. I'm hoping their customer service will come around & send me a new nozzle. I'll update again if they do.
Edit-9/2017:
Well, after some persistence, they DID send me a new nozzle. The only cost was $20 for shipping. I'm pretty happy with Shark again, but I'm wondering if other people have had this problem. I added some photos of the problem.
Amazing Vacuum. I have a dog, hardwood floors, thick area carpets, and a hard-to-clean leather shag rug. There are an astounding number of features on this vacuum that enabled to handle every surface type, nook, and cranny. The Shark is easily the best vacuum we've ever had.
Push-button operation allows the user to change modes right on from the handle. The vacuum operates like a traditional upright vacuum or it can be placed on a caddy that also carries several attachments and used as a canister vacuum. I would've liked a caddy designed to hold ALL the included attachments. The unit comes with a bag for the attachments that don't fit on the caddy in order to keep everything organized.
The dirt container is thoughtfully designed. First, the seal is complete. Gone are the days of the slightly dusty smelling vacuum bags. This unit does not let dust escape while in operation. A washable filter ensures clean running. Second, the canister opens from the bottom and the top. With the push of a button all the dust and dog hair just falls out of the bottom of the container.
The bright headlight highlights dog hair that could be missed and is especially valuable in hardwood floor mode. The hardwood floor mode includes a machine washable microfiber pad: dust and sweep in one pass!
The headlight on the wand is also very useful for dusting. The couch and crevice attachments work brilliantly. And the extra-long cord allows a lot of freedom.
Anyone looking for one of the best and most versatile vacuums on the market would do well to check out this Shark unit. We were very happy with it on all our carpets, couches, drapes, and even on the hardwood floor.
Worth buying! I HAD to replace my old vacuum, which was 20+ yrs old, and weighed a ton. I didn't want to spend $500 on a vacuum, so I asked friends for reviews. One suggested Bissell, which I considered because I use one at work. But I soon realized I needed more than that vacuum offered. My dog sheds A LOT!! Dog hair was obviously my main concern. I'm allergic to dust--I wanted a vacuum that wouldn't blow what it picked up back into the air. Vacuum bags are a hassle, so I definitely wanted bagless. There was no way I wanted to buy filters all the time, so a good system was a must! As I close in on my 6th decade, I don't want to have to haul a superweight around. Guess what vacuum fit ALL of my criteria? This vacuum even fulfilled my 'possible' wish list: extra attachments, swivel head, and versatility.
The vacuum can be used three ways, with ease--upright floor model, canister, and hand-held wand. I was so busy with work that I only got to use the vacuum twice during the first week I had it. The amount of dirt and dog hair it picked up was amazing! I have hard wood floors, throw rugs, ceramic and vinyl tile, carpeting in one room and everything looked better!! The vacuum performed easily on each and every surface. It pulled up so much stuff, I was emptying the dust cup several times! I couldn't believe it. The second time I used it, I had a whole 10 minutes until I left for work--I decided to vacuum my upstairs hall and stairs. I got those done, the upstairs bathroom, and the downstairs hall! Beautifully, I might add. Used in upright for halls/bath, used as canister on the stairs. Emptied dust cup, put away, off to work.
The suction is very good. I bought one 'used' through Amazon, because I could save a lot of money on the model. When it came, my husband put it together, I used it two minutes, my son vacuumed the kitchen. My son told me he didn't like the suction, so I worried I might have to return it. I went online, read reviews, and saw one that suggested removing and replacing the filters to improve the suction. I took the filters out, put them back in, and fantastic!! Worked so well. Definitely worth buying the 'like new' model.
If the cost of the filters is a concern: please note that you are able to wash the filters, and it is suggested you wash them every three months. I will wash mine this weekend, and I've only had my machine about a month. The reason: I figure I am picking up a LOT of extra dirt that was left behind by my other vacuum. I suggest that you visit the Shark website and watch the videos on the TruePet model. It explains a lot, and I found it very useful when making my decision. The vacuum does everything I want, looks just as pictured, has extra features I wasn't looking for, but like. The vacuum is not as noisy as my old vacuum was. Since I don't have to buy filters and bags (I will buy one set of spare filters, in case), there is a cost savings with this model. Shark makes a great vacuum!! The attached photos show my sofa, after I spent a few moments vacuuming up the dog hair that get under my leather cushions! My dog is blond, so its quite visible. It had not been vacuumed since September, due to my surgery, so there was quite a bit of hair. This shows how easily the machine picks up the hair.
We adopted a one year old Labpei (1/2 yellow lab, 1/2 shar pei), not knowing what a SHEDDING MACHINE she was going to be. Her white fur is obnoxious on our black rugs. We spent about a week vacuuming at least 4-5 times a day before realizing we needed a different tool to make our lives easier. After quite a bit of research online we settled on this Shark, and it's changed our lives! This machine not only does an excellent job of picking up dog hair, but it's AWESOME at getting a load of fine dust out of our rugs as well. As an added benefit, the bare floor setting has excellent suction which does a very good job picking up dog hairs from our wood floors. I love that this machine has lights on the front AND on the handle. Why is it important to have a light on the handle, you might ask? The handle detaches from the back of the vacuum so you can get into corners, nooks and crannies without even having to attach anything, but with the attachments, it's great on furniture too. The handle/hose has very good suction. Even though we don't allow the dog on the couch, the pet attachment is great for furniture, it has a rolling brush (kind of like a mini vacuum) so it really makes the fabric surface look like new. This machine is self propelled when you have one of the carpet settings turned on (also lighted and on the handle-SO convenient!) The self-propelling mechanism turns off for the bare floor setting along with the rolling brush action, which then increases it's suction ability. I didn't think I would care about the lift-away feature on the canister, but it's proved to be quite handy, especially when using the handle in a detached manner. It also allows the vacuum to get pretty far under the couch, kind of like a stick vacuum, which could never happen with a traditional machine. Every time we get this vacuum out to use it on the fur on our rugs it seems we end up lifting enough hair to "build" another dog, along with a ton of fine dust, which our last machine never picked up. It's always neatly contained in the canister which is super easy to empty. This is the first vacuum I've ever owned that I don't smell the dust coming back out through the filter. We took advantage of a lightning deal to buy a de-shedding apparatus for the dog. Between these two new "tools", we are down to vacuuming every other day. Awesome if you ask me!

We purchased our first Shark Rotator TruePet Powered vacuum in December 2014. We are now bumping elbows with December 2017 and have replaced the motorized nozzle twice, due to an inferior, poor quality roller, rendering the vacuum unable to function. Cost? $151.50 each time. It's a DIY replacement.
That's 3 nozzles over the course of 3 years.
You can't replace just the roller ... you have to buy the entire motorized unit.
At any rate... We did purchase a new
Shark Rotator TruePet Powered Vacuum this week because we simply "love this vacuum."
What more can I say other than perhaps Shark will see this post and make an effort to improve the roller.
Ok, I rarely post reviews even though I've spent a TON on Amazon, but I MUST write a review about this vacuum. I LOVE IT!!
We have 2 Dysons (orange balls). One Dyson, the wand suction stopped working about a year after purchase and the second one (about 6 months old) just wasn't cleaning as well as I thought it should be. It was picking stuff up but the suction just wasn't that great. So, I bit the bullet and started researching a new vacuum. I did a tremendous amount of research and this is the one that I thought would work best for our home life. I AM GLAD I ORDERED THIS!!
We are a family of 3 and pretty strict about no shoes in the house. When guests come over, they wear shoes so some dirt comes in. We have 2 dogs...a mini dachshund and a mix (papillon/king charles spaniel we are guessing). They don't shed a terrible amount and I don't think our dachshund sheds at all with his short little fur. My house is always cleaned on Fridays, top to bottom.
My shark came today and I put it together in about 15 minutes. Including getting everything out of the box. I used the Shark ONE TIME and only cleaned 2 area mats (in front of 2 different doors) and one area rug in the den (over hardwood floors). The rug we bought in August so it's about 7 months old. I was DISGUSTED yet AMAZED at what the Shark picked up. A TON of fur! You would think we lived in a barn. And an awful amount of dirt. I cannot recommend this vacuum enough.
So far I am in love with this thing. It's easy to push, in fact on one setting the thing drives itself. LOVE the lights in the front so you can see what you're cleaning. I haven't used all the attachments yet, but I think this will actually make cleaning fun! :D
The picture we posted was after 2 minutes of vacuuming our small media room. What’s shocking is that this is less than a week after we had our carpets professionally cleaned and they already looked and felt as clean as the day we had it installed “before” running the Shark over it. I JUST put this thing together and was showing my wife how it worked having easily figured it out having barely looked at the directions (that easy to put together and understand and I’m not so bright of a guy.. all heart, brain - questionable). We just wanted to hear how it sounded and didn’t intended on using it tonight until we glanced at the canister. If our cleaning guy hadn’t sent us a picture of all the crap he pulled out our carpets and feeling the dampnest afterwards, we would have asked for our money back after seeing this tonight. I don’t have anything within the past 10 years to compare this to but, oh my does it pick up dirt and pet hair!!! My 9 year old was even shocked at the dirt and hair we emptied out. I think this is a game changer with my wife’s asthma and our carpet LOOKS AWESOME!!!! I’m an idiot for not upgrading earlier and figuring out that dust is “not” supposed to escape a vacuum filter while using it! Who knew??? Well it only took me 10-20 years. No big deal. Love this thing!
Three are TONS of vacuum cleaners out there. I had a 10 yr old $100 VC that never did a great job and was begging to be replaced. I spent days searching for a new VC, and because of the high reviews on Amazon (the closest thing to non-paid for listing) I bought it. I have degen. arthritis in my lower back/spine. This VC picked up TONS of residual dirt previously cleaned with the old VC. It's light enough that I'm able to carry the container whilst getting under (ALL the way under) our bed. The powered brush attachment, to my utter amazement did just as good a job as the main head. IMO this is due to the powered roller and the swivel guard that keeps high suction at any angle. The handle as well as the full want remove easily, do a GREAT job and easily reattach to move on. They say the devils in the details, and this VC has all the accoutrements needed for practical usability. Emptying it is as easy as it comes, and it actually separates the fine dust (dumped from the bottom) to the larger strands like cat hair (yes, 3 cats). I don't fret emptying this inside for fear of making a huge mess, as was the norm with the old VC.
One last thing. I noticed that starting it up, the motor does not immediately jump to full power, but it's almost imperceptible. This is (I don't know if it's even an added feature) a sign of a decent electronic start that will elongate the run time of the motor. Everything about the VC is done well ; even the swivel turning has a tight radius and makes things easier on my back, as does the flip switch on the handle for floor type. No more bending over..
Worth every penny...
WOW, It's better than what the TV info commercial said! We have 4 cats and a German Shepard. Even tho the house looked clean. The shark proved it wasn't. The dust & dander is truly contained. No more moving fur & dust around. Thanks to all of the Amazon & consumer reviews that I read, I purchased the vacuum. I ran the Shark though all sorts a tests. I was able to suck up the dust off of the furniture, fur off of the comforter & drapes. It did a wonderful job on the bear floors. It took up all the dust & dander that my Orek & Kirby left behind. I didn't have to wash the floor to remove the dust. It picked up all of the cat fur on the dining room chairs where they love to sleep. Worked wonders on the cat stands. It sucked up the dust off of the computer & electronics in the house. I was surprised how much fur, dander came up from the carpets. Even my daughter remarked that after I was done cleaning the house smelled better- Cleaner. I didn't have the fly away dust in the air....that same dust that lands back on the furniture that makes double the work. I look forward to using this again. I feel I picked a winner and in the long run I will be very pleased with the Shark. Thank you to every one who wrote a review. Update: see Consumer Report mag. March 2017 page 35. This got rated as NO. 1 for bag-less upright vacuums
