This starter rehydrates very easily - just follow the instructions. After following the simple 1:1:1 ratio (starter, flour, water), I had very active starter after only three days; feeding twice each day. The first loaf of sourdough bread I made disappeared in half a day, followed by, “When are you going to make more bread?” The sourdough flavor was very evident in the first loaf and I know it will only get better every time I make bread. If you’re interested in making your own sourdough bread but don’t want to start your own culture, then this is for you! Just make sure you save enough starter each time before you bake. You can have great starter for the rest of your life from this dehydrated culture.
Photos were a little misleading. You get a small packet of dehydrated started not the jar. Have since made sourdough from the started and it has a good flavor. It will take a while to develop further. Instructions are easy to follow and it is packaged neatly.
Unexpected good product !
I am really really enjoying this sourdough starter. It’s simple to rehydrate following the instructions and I started baking with it a few days later. I use a Dutch oven and the bread came out incredibly rustic, crispy and fragrant. I was VERY pleased that the flavor of it isn’t sour compared to other starters. My kids eat it ridiculously fast so I double up the recipe now. Easy instructions to feed the starter, but make sure you use good, organic flour and not the enriched stuff for best results. Save a few flakes of starter for backup!
Reviving dry starter took only a couple days. It quickly became very active and bubbly. Followed instructions included and it was a success!

Description
WILD WHEAT SOURDOUGH BREAD STARTER Included in the kit: - 3g dehydrated Wild Sourdough Starter (uses organic unbleached 100% wheat flour) - Instructions manual Tips and Tricks: - Use a 1:1 ratio of flour to warm water to feed. Mix well. If starter if left on counter it needs to be fed once every 8-12 hours. If refrigerated it needs to be fed once a week. - How to tell if your starter is no good: turns pink or orange; rotten smell; mold on top - Starter will be thick and will rise, so a large vented container is a must. - Acetone smell doesn't mean the starter has gone bad. That smell is caused by a certain bacteria in the starter. - You may notice a watery substance on surface of starter; this is called "hooch". It is safe to leave in starter. Just stir in well before using. It will give starter a more sour taste. - Warm spring/well or filtered water is recommended for feeding. - Please remember, the culture can be sustained indefinitely if taken care of properly.
