NOW Supplements, Psyllium Husk 500 mg, 500 Capsules

Seriously, between these and the pro-daily probiotics, my life has been totally changed. I generally eat a very high protein diet, and when I'm eating clean, I don't get nearly enough fiber for the volume of food. Instead of chewing on fibrous veggies all day (blech), I take 3 of these, and one probiotic cap, and after the first few days, I have been consistent and regular. Furthermore, and this is kinda gross I guess, every time I go, I only have to wipe once... and that is just a courtesy wipe really. I've NEVER had that happen with any consistency. I'm buying this again today!

I first heard about Psyllium Husk from Chris D'elia on the h3h3 podcast. He talked about how taking this supplement reduced his time in the bathroom from a painful, gory experience to 2 wipes. I was astonished and I immediately felt the need to try it myself. I started out on 3 capsules the first day, then bumped it up to 5 the next. I've been maintaining at 5 since (though the product says use up to 9 a day). I take 2 in the morning with breakfast and 3 in the evening with dinner. It took about 3 days to start noticing a difference.

This has changed the game, folks. I no longer dread a trip to the bathroom... if anything, I'm excited. Without going into too much detail...it bulks everything up and it's a much easier cleanup. Plus, I've become so regular that I know 8:30pm is my time to shine.

I love this stuff.

I have used this a couple weeks before writing this review. I find that these work for me, improving regularity and softness, but I had to take four caps two times a day with plenty of water to make them effective. Now for me, if that is all I have to do to avoid hemorrhoids and/or fissures, then it's worth it.

EDIT: Some time after writing this review, I tried to use fiber powder, first Benefiber (ASIN B00CX3ASFE), then Optifiber (ASIN B0091FABUE). I found both of these (at one serving, or 2tsp per day) to be considerably more effective than the fiber caps, with Optifiber being somewhat more effective for me (and less expensive) than Benefiber. I would recommend using the powders over the caps if you have the option.

I mix my fiber powder with my protein shake, but when I've tried it independently it seems to have very little flavor. Just take it when you wake up while going through your usual morning ablutions.

I suffered for DECADES before I went to a specialist that told me all that was wrong with me was a lack of fiber in my diet. He recommended Fiber Choice. I chewed 2 of these per day with not much improvement. Then I ordered these caps from Amazon. My quality of life has improved by taking these than any other thing I've ever done, which includes stopping cigarette smoking after 50+ years.

This product is really amazing, I just can't say enough about it. Following a low carb diet can lead to some difficulty pooping sometimes, or going several days between events. I decided to try the NOW Psyllium Husk 500 mg capsules, taking four of these with each meal and almost immediately I started pooping every day with regularity, with the added benefit that the poop literally falls out with no effort at all. Some other reviewers mentioned that the need to wipe is greatly reduced... TRUE! The capsule format is super convenient to keep in a pocket on the way to a meal, I wish I'd known about it years ago.

Going to be very descriptive, Readers Warned!
In the last year or so I have been dealing with a poop problem. My poop would come out greasy and sticky. Wiping was a nightmare and having to return to the bathroom an hour later to rewipe to make sure I removed all the sticky poop. I would hate alway leaving stains in the toilet too. I just find it embarrassing. I've tried multiple probiotics, drinking apple cider vinegar, salt water cleanses, changing eating habits and even fasting for a few days. Nothing seem to work; I've been using this for a few days and its solved my poop problem. I still can't believe it only takes a few wipes and im done. If you having poop problems, I highly recommend this product!!

I eat a high-protein and high-fat diet with not many vegetables which can lead to somewhat...unreliable bowel movements. Three in the morning and three at lunch keep everything solid, moving, and comfortable. This is a fine, cheap, reliable product to keep your pipes clean.

Everyone's bodies work differently so you may need to try different dosages to see what works for you. I started out doing 3 capsules twice a day for the first few weeks but didn't notice anything different. I decided to continue taking them anyway since I paid for them, but decided to change the dosage to 4 capsules twice a day (followed by a 16.9 oz bottle of water). This made a huge difference. I now go at least once a day (I used to only go twice a week!). As others have said in their reviews, these capsules also make the experience much easier and cleaner as well as making you more regular. I will definitely continue to order this item.

I had been using psyllium for years, then I started having bouts of bronchitis/bronchospasms where I had to go to an urgent care facility several times. I was treated with antibiotics but still didn't rid me of the bronchitis-the odd cough one has throughout the day. While studying with my pharmacology flash cards (Pharm Phlash! Valerie Leek, 2nd ed.Davis Co. Card #14, Gastrointestinal), psyllium came-up, and under adverse/side effects is "bronchospasms". So I quit taking the pills and the bronchitis went away. As a foot note many people take psyllium without ever getting bronchitis, but I thought the association should be among the reviews.

During that time of the month, I have an excruciating time trying to go to the bathroom due to endometriosis. To help ease the pain, I’ve been taking fiber pills at night for years. My gyno recommended it as well. At the very least, I always make sure to take them a week ahead of time, every night, until it’s over. When I was in college the pain was so bad from trying to go that I’d pass out. It’s gotten a little better with age (currently 29).

I used to get Metamucil pills, but seriously, almost $30 for a bottle of fiber pills? I can’t afford that as often as I need them. I came across this affordable brand and trust me, they work just as effectively.

Through the years I’ve found my optimal dose to be taking 8 pills at one time per night, with a big glass of water. (Otherwise the pills stick in your throat, not comfortable!) I’m not a doctor so don’t take that as medical advice - I’m just sharing what helps me. Sometimes it does take a couple days to “unblock” my system but from what I understand, that’s normal.

For reference on how many pills I take and my size, I am 5’7”, 120 lbs, and extremely active.
