Rowenta DG8520 Perfect Steam 1800-Watt Eco Energy Steam Iron Station Stainless Steel Soleplate, 400-Hole, Purple

I recently got into piece quilting and, after seeing a YouTube tutorial (Jordan Fabrics), decided I wanted to get a Rowenta Steam Iron w/ station base. I have NOT been disappointed!!! This iron will scare you initially, because of all the steam it shoots out when you squeeze the button (underside of the iron handle), but boy does this thing deliver!!! Between the amount and force of the steam, wrinkles disappear from fabric very quickly. Heat setting is an adjustable dial, which I really like and appreciate being able to manually choose my setting compared to a regular iron with only 5-settings. The water reservoir in the stationary base is HUGE - 1.? liters. I've only had to refill twice in the 5 months or so since I've own it - once when I bought it and again yesterday. I'm very happy I made the investment to purchase this iron. While I may have spent quite a bit for it, I'm not at all unhappy or disappointed that I did. I gave it only 4 stars for "light weight" because its a substantial iron, but not heavy either because the water isn't stored in the iron, as with most steam irons, it's stored in the station base. Yeah, I'd buy this iron again.

This iron was a big step up for me from the regular Rowenta iron I had been using for many years that finally just didn't produce much steam any longer. This iron has everything that I was looking for all in one iron -- a lighter iron, but with a separate water container to lighten up the iron itself along with an even distribution of steam via the many steam holes and a narrower ironing tip that allows getting into smaller areas and more precision. I pared this iron with the Brabantia Ironing Board with Steam Iron Rest and Linen Rack, Size C, Wide. The iron station sits perfectly on the linen rack and the rack for the iron on the side of the ironing board fits the iron perfectly. This setup also allows me to get full use of the ironing board without the iron getting in the way. It seems that some of the other reviews are a little mixed on the quality of this product, but so far this iron has been what I wished I would have had years ago.

My wife had a different brand that lasted about 4 years but when it quit I found that they discontinued that model. She reluctantly tried this one and after a week of using it she proclaimed it is much better than the previous one she had. She said this one is much lighter which at first she thought a heavier iron was better but changed her mind. One bit of advice I can give for people using these high steam generating irons is always use distilled water in them. Distilled water will lengthen the life of the iron considerably. Distilled water cost less than $1/gallon at your local store.

If you have not used a Rowenta Steam Station you don't know what you are missing. My old one broke and I found I just could not go back to using an ordinary steam iron. With this steamer I can iron both sides of most clothing at the same time. My husband often gets asked where he has his shirts done - all this with no starch or product.

This iron heats up quickly and the water tank is large enough to last through a pike of ironing but not so big that you can't turn it on to press a single item.. Best part is if it needs refilling you just flip a plastic lid and fill it without having to release the steam and reheat the entire tank. I love this product.

I had this model, or very similar, for about 20 years. When it died last week (a sad day!), I chose this model to replace it. I just did the "maiden voyage" with the new iron and steam station. The iron soleplate is now slightly smaller, but the steam power is the same, thank goodness. This is why we fans love this iron. The calc system and the Eco setting are new for me and look to be great features. It is all easy to operate, even if it is your first time.
My only negatives for amazon to be aware of are that this large, heavy system was shipped to me simply in its original Rowenta box with one strip of clear mailing tape down the center seam. It was not placed inside another shipping box which you do with smaller, lighter items, which cannot break. So this is perplexing to me since this system can break and is quite heavy. Shifting during shipping broke the upper styrofoam holding the iron. The iron arrived loose in the box. Whoever first purchased my system before returning it to amazon did not lock the iron into place either when returning the system. Secondly, I quite obviously received a returned iron. Nothing was factory-wrapped in plastic and there was no factory packing except for the broken and partially there styrofoam unit. The cords were simply wound up and stuffed in without wires or wrappers. I was holding my breath when I tried the system, since my steam station was not packaged correctly and everything was inexpertly stuffed back into the Rowenta box due to it being a return. It would have been nice, amazon, to have gotten a new, unopened, untouched system for this price!

I love this iron/steamer! It makes ironing (a chore) so much easier. Steam is the only way to go when you have to iron. I have many delicate shirts that the iron plate cannot come in contact with - I can use the steam feature to iron these. My husband does his own ironing (sorry ladies -he's already taken) and finds the use of the steam simplifies his ironing as he only has to pass the iron over his shirts one time. This iron allows you to avoid multiple passes back and forth over your clothing. It uses regular tap water - no starch needed. I have used MANY irons in my lifetime and this is the only one I would recommend. It is worth every penny.

I'm not a fan of ironing, but this iron changed my mind! I love it! My husband (this is Connor's mom writing this) is a very tall guy, so his shirts are pretty large (3XLT). I was able to iron 5 of his shirts and two pairs of his pants in 40 minutes using this iron. I couldn't believe it!

When I first started using the steam station, I wasn't overly impressed. It didn't seem to be giving-off much steam... certainly not like the videos I had seen online. I checked and found there was a kink in the hose. I straightened it and it started to get better. Several minutes later, the steam seemed to "soften" the hose and the iron began pouring out steam!! Then, I was hooked! It did give-off a very unpleasant smell at first, but that only lasted a few minutes and then there was nothing at all. I read reviews saying the water canister was hard to fill, but I didn't find that to be true. I found it very simple to remove, fill and replace. The one feature I really like is the lock to hold the iron in place so the unit can be easily carried from place to place. This is honestly the best iron I've ever owned and I wish I had found it years ago. It took one of my least favorite chores and turned it into one that I actually now find relaxing! Imagine that!!! :-)

Fantastic iron! I used to have an holder model (which lasted for ten years) and wanted to get a new one. Ironing takes half time than with a regular iron, with less effort and clothes look much better. A professional iron, I can iron for two hours and the tank is still not empty! I didn’t give 5 stars just because it’s a bit heavy, but honestly if you have a laundry room and don’t need to move it around, then you don’t have to worry about it. I’m currently in an apartment so I keep it in storage room and get it out when I need it, but again it’s totally worth the money and a great purchase.

Why did I wait so long? Wish I had purchased years ago. Yes, it is large and a pricy, but the tank holds a lot of water and it works SO well. I sew and pressing the seams is really the secret to a good outcome. It does not take long to warm up and is the best iron I have ever had. I have ruined two "regular" irons by allowing them to fall when taking them somewhere to use on a weekend sewing trip. (I don't think I will risk it with this one!) There is a long "cord" between the iron and tank, so it is easy to use. It can also be used a a steamer. I can't say enough good things about this product.

This iron has made my life so much easier. It's really a great iron with strong steam. I pay a lot of money for my clothes and I have had several irons ruin my clothes because of water leakage (sometimes brown) or I would be ironing and it would leave dark marks in my clothing. I would literally have to pass the iron on the board first to make sure no brown marks would transfer to the clothes. So far no problems with this iron. Only thing is that I have heard the iron making noise while I have been sleeping and it's off which is weird. But so far irons quickly and efficiently.
