I had been doing a very loose keto diet for about a month with limited results before getting the strips. My first 2 tests didn't show anything so I assumed the strips were bad but after some more research founds I was eating wrong and after a couple minor tweaks to my diet the strips started to change colors within 24 hours. Great for making sure your keto diet is working.
I was skeptical about this product but wanted to see if eating low carbs would allow my body to get to the Keto state. The first few test I took I saw no color change on the stick. After 8 days of following a low carb diet I took the test again and of course the color changes. See picture.
They work well as long as you know when to use them. If you drink a lot of water through out the day then i recommended using one in the morning before your water consumption has time to dilute the test.
There are three main ketone bodies that are excreted from the body during ketosis. Acetoacetate is one of the ketones that is produced early in your nutritional ketogenic diet and can be easily and accurately measured in the urine by these strips. Be aware that you tend to produce this kind of ketone more so later in the day. Consequently, you will get a darker reading in the evening. If you continue on your ketogenic quest, your body will eventually stop excreting this kind of ketone in the urine and produce more of the ketones found in the serum and breath. This process is called kept-adaption, whereby you have switched your body over to burning more of your own fat as the main fuel source rather than glucose (sugar). This means that the further and more adapted you are in your diet, the less helpful these strips will be. This may cause you to become discouraged with the diet. If you never plan on being in the leto-adapted state you can continue to use these strips. However, most people will have keto adaption as the desired goal and will need to stop using these strips when adapted. You will then need switch to either blood or breath testing to monitor proper nutrition ketosis. The blood test for ketones is very accurate, but the machine and especially the strips, are very expensive. I chose to use the only breath ketone tester currently available at this time - the KETONIX breath tester, which was available on Amazon at one time. For people doing extremely low-carb diet to lose weight, these are an absolute must.
I did low-carb years ago and spent double this at the local pharmacy. This is our second bottle of these in a few weeks because my husband started low-carb and went out of town for six weeks and took the bottle with him. So I decided to go low-carb too while he's away but he took the bottle of strips with him so I just ordered another one.
I chose these because the reviews stated they are slightly longer than the nurse-something-or-another ones.
Now, since the hubs is out-of-town, we snapchat each other with our pictures of our keto strips and he's jelly because mine are always darker (lol) and I told him he's eating hidden carbs in restaurants.

I always read reviews and read the lowest reviews first. I think there could possibly be some confusion. The first time I used a strip I quickly dipped it in urine and then waited 40 seconds. There was no detection of ketosis so I knew something was wrong. THEN I READ the instructions, you are supposed to leave the strip in the urine for 40 seconds. I was very pleased to show a moderate or darker result. I'm wondering if some of the one star reviews could be from people that are doing it wrong because I did it incorrectly until I read the directions. This product worked great for me and the ebook was a nice bonus.
These strips are great! They seem to get the job done of testing for ketones very accurately and quickly. They've been extremely useful during my newly adopted ketogenic diet journey. The company owner, Kaba, is awesome as well. Not only does he give you a great product, but he also provides his customers with useful tips and advice via emails and an ebook. I wish more companies were that committed and dedicated to helping their customers. I will definitely be purchasing these ketone strips again when I run out.
I've been undergoing a ketogenic diet periodically since the 70s, when Dr Atkins first wrote his Diet Revolution book. Back then, it was a pretty spartan proposition, since the only sugar substitute readily available was saccharin, which tasted plain nasty, and alternative flours, such as almond and coconut, were not widely available. Milk for cooking or drinking? Forget it! No almond, soy, or coconut milks widely or consistently available. It's no exaggeration to say that difference between keto dieting then and now is akin to night and day.
What has not changed is that even back then, we used Ketostix to check for the presence of ketones in order to know our body had achieved ketosis, and then to know our carb intake limit to stay there. They worked exactly the same, with the same purple color, as these and others like TruePlus. Back then, though, they were incredibly expensive for a small number.
